Lady Badgers Win CSI 72-67 & NIC 68-67

The Lady Badgers opened their Idaho road trip with a five-point victory over the College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles 72-67 and then edged the Northern Idaho Cardinals 68-67.

Although the Badgers trailed the Eagles in the early going, an Amanda Farish layup off and an Alle Finch assist pulled Snow to within one point at the half.  With 2:15 left in the game, Tara Gehring nailed a three-point lead at 72-67.  Abbie Beutler went seven of eight from the line in the final minute and a half to help the Badgers hold on for the win.

Gehring and Sammie Jensen had seven rebounds each to lead Snow’s domination of the boards.  The Badgers out-rebounded CSI 45-38.  Finch and Beutler had three steals each.

The Badgers shot 50 percent from three-point range and were led by Beutler with 20 points.  Gehring was three of four from three-point range on her way to 17 points.  Jensen had 11, Farish had 10, Linsey Hodgkiss added 9, Amy Weitzeil had six, Finch had four and Jaquel Christensen scored two.

At NIC it was a battle all the way.  Snow led by three at the half, but it was a missed shot by the Cardinals at the buzzer that gave Snow the one-point win.

The Badgers pounded the boards early and pulled down 38 rebounds compared to 29 by NIC.  Jensen led the way with 12 rebounds.

Farish and Beutler each had 14 points for Snow.  Gehring had 12, Wetzeil had 10, Finch scored eight, Jensen added six, and Hodgkiss and Christensen had two each.

The Lady Badgers will be at home this week where they will play Northern Colorado on Friday and then the College of Eastern Utah Saturday.  With a pair of home wins, the Lady Badgers could move up in the SWAC standings.

Salt Lake Community College is in first place with a 9-2 record, followed by NIC at 9-3 and CSI at 7-5.  Snow is fourth with their 6-5 record, followed by CEU at 3-8, and CNCC is winless in conference play at 0-12.

With CSI playing non-conference games this week, the Badgers could move ahead of them into third place with a pair of home wins.
