Lady Badgers Off To A Great Start
The Snow College Lady Badgers are off to a great start in 2010 with six big victories in a row over the semester break.
The run started with a New Year’s Day celebration complete with Badger fireworks when Snow demolished Blue Mountain 71-43. The next day they did it again to Treasure Valley 71-41.
The only home game of the holiday break was on Jan. 4, and the Badgers gave hometown fans a treat with their 69-48 win over Central Wyoming. The team wrapped things up last Friday and Saturday with road wins against conference opponents when they beat Colorado Northwestern 65-43, and then Eastern Utah 78-65.
The home win over Central Wyoming was typical of the way the Badgers dominated their competition. In that game Snow opened play with a 6-0 run, but a pair of Rustler three-pointers prompted coach Cindy Lindsay to call a time-out and refocus the team’s effort.
Steals by Amanda Farish, Abbie Beutler and Alle Finch helped the Badgers pull away, and they went on a run that left the Rustlers down by 23 at the half. Coach Lindsay cleared the bench in the second half, and every player in uniform saw action as Snow cruised to a 21-point win.
The Badgers were 12 of 15 from the line and got a double double from Sammie Jensen, who went to the bench with 13 rebounds and 16 points. Finch had 10 points, Farish had nine, Tara Gehring scored eight, Linsey Hodgkiss joined Beutler with seven each, and Jaquel Christensen joined Bailie Reynolds with four each. Amy Weitzeil and Melissa Diop had two each.
This week Snow will have only one game, but it’s a big one. The Badgers will travel to Salt Lake Community College on Saturday to take on the always tough Lady Bruins.
