EPHRAIM—The No. 20 ranked Snow College Badgers overwhelmed the Mustangs of Western Wyoming College 77-49 in men's junior college basketball action Wednesday night in Ephraim. The Badgers led only 25-17 at the break, but ran away from the Mustangs with 52 points in the second half.
Snow canned eight 3-pointers in the second half, four of them from #London Simonsen# (Salem Hills HS) who came off the bench to tie for game-high scoring honors with 15. #Nick Gruninger# (Davis HS) also had 15 for Snow, as did Lindsey Johnson to lead Western Wyoming.
Snow's defense put the clamps on the Mustangs in the first half, allowing their guests only three field goals in the first 20 minutes, all from behind the 3-point line. The Mustangs were 3-of-16 from the field in the first half while the Badgers got off more than twice as many shots going 10-34.
“I thought we played good defense,” said Snow head coach Rob Nielson. “We knew what they were doing and switched things up on them. If would could play that way every night I'd be very happy.”
#Brock Smith# (Fremont HS) scored 13 for Snow and pulled down eight rebounds. #Connor Van Brocklin# (Davis HS) added 11 for the Badgers and Cheikh Sane grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Mike Pelo (Wasatch HS) chipped in 12 points for Western Wyoming.
The Badgers improve to 12-1 with the win and will open league play on Saturday when they travel to Salt Lake Community College (9-2) in the Scenic West Athletic Conference opener for both teams. Western Wyoming drops to 2-10 with the loss and does not play again until Jan. 2 against Eastern Utah.
