EPHRAIM—The Snow College football team is having trouble getting going, losing its second straight game of the season, 40-19, on the road at Scottsdale. The loss puts the Badgers at 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the Western States Football League.
Scottsdale quarterback Blake Decker lit up the Badgers completing 25 of 35 passes for 372 yards and four touchdowns.
Placekicker Spencer Groner staked Snow to a six-point lead in the first quarter with a pair of field goals, but Decker threw his first touchdown pass before the end of the opening period, and the Artichokes never trailed again. Scottsdale led 27-19 at halftime and then shut out the Badgers in the second half.
Snow had 425 yards of total offense, including 232 yards passing, but four interceptions and a fumble lost, scuttled drives and resulted in no points to show for moving the ball. The Badgers got into the red zone five times, but scored on only one red zone possession. "You can't win ball games when you turn the ball over 10 times in two weeks," said Snow head coach Britt Maughan.
Sophomore quarterback Ryan Rosenvall, filling in for starter Crosby Jensen who was injured last week against Georgia Military, was 17 of 30 passing for 232 yards. He connected on touchdown passes to tight ends Landon Horne and Tyler Barron. Horne finished with seven receptions for 111 yards.
With the rest of the regular season consisting of only conference games, the Badgers will try to get back on track as they travel to Tucson this weekend to take on the Pima Aztecs. This will be the Badgers third road game in the first four weeks of the season. They return for a two-game home stand beginning with Mesa on Sept. 21 followed by homecoming the next week against New Mexico Military.
