Box Score EPHRAIM — The No. 7 ranked Snow College Badgers kept themselves in the hunt for a Western States Football League (WSFL) title with a 51-3 win over the Broncos of New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M., on Saturday. The Badgers stormed to a 35-0 halftime lead to put the game out of doubt early.
Running back
Stephen Shepard made the most of his opportunities, scoring three touchdowns on only 11 rushes. Fellow running backs
Louie Hamilton and
Darrell Milburn, along with quarterback
Alex Kuresa, each added a running touchdown for the Badgers.
Kuresa had another efficient day running the offense, completing 16 of 22 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown. Kuresa was not intercepted for the second game in a row, and has thrown only two picks in Snow's six games this season. The sophomore signal caller was the leading ground gainer for the Badgers, picking up 86 yards on 11 carries.
Tight end
Chris Copier pulled in five passes for 68 yards while
Jonah Trinnaman added four receptions for 57 yards.
Dalton Fackrell had two catches for 65 yards, with
Jake Trujillo grabbing a pair for 21 yards and
Jeff Ginolfi added two catches for 20 yards and a touchdown.
The Broncos' only score came on a 35-yard field goal by Alex Biby with four minutes left in the game. The Badger defense held the normally high-powered Bronco rushing game to only 97 yards on the ground on 34 attempts and 136 yards of total offense. Snow had a total offense of 465 yards.
Snow is now 5-1 on the season, remaining in a tie with Scottsdale half a game behind the league leading 6-1 Matadors of Arizona Western. The Badgers host 3-3 Eastern Arizona this Saturday and then close the regular season next week on the road in Tucson to take on 1-5 Pima. Arizona Western closes out regular season league play this Saturday when they travel to 3-3 Mesa. Scottsdale hosts 0-6 Phoenix this week and then hosts Mesa next weekend to wrap up regular season play. The WSFL will conduct a post-season tournament for the second time this season with the top four teams playing off and the bottom four teams also having a playoff.
