Box Score 2 EPHRAIM — The Lady Badgers of Snow College are off to a 1-2 start in play in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, losing to both conference foes who are above them in the national rankings. Following a 13-2 preseason, the No.10 ranked Badgers opened league play by losing 3-0 to No. 7 ranked Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), but came back to sweep North Idaho College 3-0 before dropping a 3-1 match to third ranked College of Southern Idaho.
The Badgers were always in their match with the highly ranked Bruins of SLCC, losing in straight sets 25-22, 27-25, 27-25. Sophomore
Delayne Daniel led the way with 12 kills for Snow, SLCC All-American Carol Grasso with 15 kills and Jessica Quayle with 10 were just a bit better.
Cali Tovey had 15 digs for Snow and Daniel added 11 while
Magen Hunter had 27 assists for the Badgers.
The Badgers finally got to play at home on Friday, Oct. 3, hosting the Cardinals of North Idaho (NIC). Snow cut their guests no slack, sweeping the Cardinals 25-19, 25-22, 25-22. Daniel and
Brooke Lamb each had nine kills for Snow with Sierra Green right behind with eight. Green had six blocks and Ali Stephenson added four for Snow. Tovey and Daniel each came up with 15 digs and
Samantha Lewis recorded 10, while Hunter turned in 28 assists. Matilda Altin had a match-high 13 kills for NIC.
The nationally third-ranked Golden Eagles of Southern Idaho (CSI) brought their power game to Ephraim on Saturday and won in split sets over the Badgers, 25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19. CSI's Natasa Savovic had a big match with 19 kills with a .484 kill percentage.
Brooke Lamb had a personal season high with 18 kills for Snow. Daniel added 14 kills for the Badgers while Hunter had 39 assists. Tovey had 18 digs and Lewis had 14.
CSI swept SLCC Friday night and are atop the early Scenic West standings at 3-0. SLCC and NIC are at 2-1 with Snow and USU-Eastern at 1-2. This week Snow travels to Rangely, Colo., to face Colorado Northwestern on Friday, then stops in Price on the way back to take on USU-Eastern Saturday afternoon.
