#5 Snow shuts out Glendale to remain unbeaten

Box Score The No. 5 Snow College Badgers added to the win column with their first shutout of the season as they rolled over the Glendale Gauchos 24-0.  Snow's defense led the way scoring a game-changing touchdown and holding the Gauchos to just 54 rushing yards and 126 yards in the air.

Glendale was able to keep Snow's offense out of the endzone for the 1st half, allowing only one field goal in the final seconds of the 2nd quarter.  The second half was a different story.  On their first drive of the 3rd quarter, the Badgers put together a 72 yard drive on 14 plays that ended with a 7 yard touchdown run by RB Stephen Shepard to give Snow a 10-0 lead.

With 12:52 left in the game, the Badgers' defense came up big as DL Teau Satuala broke through the line and forced a fumble in the Gaucho backfield that LB Tamiela Tuuhetaufa picked up and ran 17 yards into the endzone to make it 17-0.  "That is what changed the ball game," says Head Coach Britt Maughan.  "They were still hanging tough and it was still a good battle, but that big play took the wind out of their sails, let us relax a bit and play a little better on both sides of the ball."

Snow would put the game out of reach two drives later as RB Josh Labrador took a handoff up the middle and broke through the secondary for an 80-yard touchdown run and a 24-0 lead with 6:25 remaining.

The Badgers' offense got it done on the ground as they rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns.  In the passing game, QB Stefan Cantwell completed 14-29 for 149 yards in the air with one interception.  Snow lost two offensive weapons to injury as Cantwell left the game early in the 4th quarter, along with TE Dalton Fackrell.  With 44 all-purpose yards, WR Jonah Trinnaman was Coach Maughan's impact player.  "Jonah Trinnaman has an effect on the game no matter what he does," says Maughan.  "Whether it is as a blocker, receiver or any part of our game plan.  No matter what his stats are, he affects the game."

Defensively, Cardon Malan picked up two sacks to bring his season total to 8.5.  Malan is second in the NJCAA for sacks, just 0.5 behind the leader.  Jantz Arbon and Braxton Winterton each had an interception to bring their season totals to 2 and 3, respectively.

Snow heads to Arizona to take on the Phoenix College Bears on October 3rd and Coach Maughan is looking to keep the Badgers winning.  "We play in a very tough, defense-oriented league.  Our offense has to come prepared and be disciplined on every rep and our defense has to continue to be sound as we take on a high scoring Phoenix team."
