SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Nov. 4, 2017) -- The ninth-ranked Snow Badgers football team overcame six turnovers and a 24-7 first quarter deficit to storm back and defeat 18th ranked Scottsdale 51-48 in Arizona, Saturday. Snow lost their starting quarterback
Shane Johnson to an injury in the 1st half and required the services of back-up
Nick Robins to engineer the comeback. Robins finished 13 of 25 for 149 yards and three touchdowns. Running back
Jaylen Warren overcame two lost fumbles to rush for 258 yards and two touchdowns, his second 200 yard rushing game in a row.
Snow trailed 17-0 in the first quarter after two fumbles before they scored on a 10yard run by
Shane Johnson. After another Artichokes touchdown, the Badgers' Johnson ran for another score to make it 24-14 in the second quarter. Then, Johnson fumbled inside his own 25 on the next drive and Scottsdale returned it for a touchdown to go up 31-14. After a Scottsdale field goal, Snow running back
Jaylen Warren finished the half with two rushing touchdowns to narrow the gap to 34-27 at halftime.
In the second half, Snow fumbled the ball at the Scottsdale two yard line on their opening drive, then settled for a 23 yard field goal from
Kekoa Sasaoka on their next drive to close the gap to 34-30. However the big-play Artichokes moved the ball 78 yards in 5 plays to score on a Grayson Barry 18 yard touchdown pass to pull ahead by 11. Then Snow back-up signal caller
Nick Robins connected on two touchdown passes at the end of the third quarter to Anthoney Turner and midway through the fourth quarter to
Derek Wright giving Snow their first lead of the game, 44-41.
Scottsdale would come right back to take the lead as they drove the ball 59 yards and capped it off with a 26yd TD pass to Devin Neal to put the Artichokes back on top 48-44 with 5:45 left in the game. On the first play of the next Snow possession,
Jaylen Warren broke free up the middle for a 66 yard run that put the Badgers at the Scottsdale 14 yard line. A couple of plays later, Robins connected with
Anthony Turner for a 4 yard touchdown pass to give Snow a 51-48 lead with 4:06 left in the game.
The Badgers defense would close out the game on the next Scottsdale drive with a sack by defensive end
Troy Murray and an interception by defensive back
Kalen McGee to seal the comeback win. Snow improved to 8-1 on the season and 5-1 in W.S.F.L. Action. The Badgers wrap up the regular season on the road this Saturday against the Phoenix Bears at 7:00pm on KMTI AM 650 & 95.1 FM.
