ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (Oct. 16, 2019) -- The fifth-ranked Snow College women's volleyball team picked up a tough, non-conference road victory on Wednesday, defeating Western Wyoming in four sets. The Mustangs, who had won 16 of their past 17 matches entering Wednesday's match, took the first set 25-23. The Badgers came back to take the next three sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-17. Wednesday's victory marked the 25th of the season for the Badgers. Snow has now won 25 or more matches over three straight years, marking a rally scoring school record for consecutive 25-win seasons.
"Western Wyoming is a very good team," Snow College head coach Jeff Reynolds said. "We played them in our first match of the season, and compared to what we saw last night, they have to be one of the most improved teams we have every seen. We struggled a bit in the first set, but were able to get things turned around and won the next three sets. I was proud of the way our team stepped up and played for each other tonight. Winning 25 games in a season is not an easy task, and they continue to battle each time they step on the court. We're pretty proud of these kids."
The Badgers were led by freshman middle blocker
Lydia Montague who recorded a season-high 19 kills on 33 attempts. The Lehi, Utah product hit a blistering .515 at the net. She was also credited with a match-high seven blocks against the Mustangs. Sophomores
Andreanna McKee and
Sarah Morley added a combined 20 kills, with 11 and 9 kills, respectively. Defensively,
Jentry Ison racked up a team-best 16 digs, followed by
Savannah Tanner who was credited with 14 digs on the night. Morley also had 13 digs. Sophomore
Marcie Stapley racked up five blocks in the Badger
For only the fourth time this season, the Badgers will get to play on their home court this weekend. Snow will take on Southern Nevada on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. as the second round of conference play gets under way.
