EPHRAIM, Utah (Feb. 21, 2019) -- For the first time since 2001, the Snow College women's basketball team has won at least a share of the Scenic West Athletic Conference Championship. The Lady Badgers claimed the title following an 86-62 victory over Southern Idaho on Thursday. With the win, Snow College improves to 21-8 on the season and will now await the outcome of the Salt Lake C.C.--Colorado Northwestern game on Saturday to determine seeding for the upcoming conference tournament.
"Last year we finished in second place behind Salt Lake," head coach Mike Russell said. "It has been our goal all season long to get to this point. I'm extremely pleased with the way our team came to play tonight and put us in the position to win or tie for the Conference championship. Even if we do end up sharing the regular-season championship if Salt Lake beats CNCC on Saturday, we have a great deal of respect for that program. They are one of the best programs in the country and to be tied with them says a lot about the direction of our program."
Southern Idaho jumped out to a six-point lead early in the fist half, but the Lady Badgers came back to earn a 26-point lead late in the fourth quarter. All totaled, Snow led for over 29 minutes in the game.Â
Freshman guard
Sydney Pilling led the Lady Badgers with a game-high 24 points on 6-of-10 shooting from three-point range. Sophomore teammate
Savannah Domgaard was credited with a game-high 17 rebounds, including 14 defensive boards.Â
With the win, the Lady Badgers improve to 21-8 on the season and 9-3 in conference play. Snow has won nine of its last 10 games.Â
