LAS VEGAS, (May 8, 2021) -- Both the Snow College men's and women's soccer teams picked up important road wins over Southern Nevada on Saturday. The Badger men defeated the Coyotes, 4-1, and with two matches remaining, have secured at least a second-place finish in the Scenic West Athletic Conference Standings. The Lady Badgers recorded their eighth shutout of the season with a 5-0 victory over Southern Nevada. With the win, the Lady Badgers are in a second-place tie with Utah State Eastern at 6-2. The two teams will face off on Wednesday in Ephraim.
During the men's game, Ben Deonte score the first goal off an assist from
Sean Lane-Turnbull just after four minutes into the match. Zackary Lifferth then scored his first of three goals less than two minutes later. The Coyotes scored their first and only goal of the match at the 27:13 mark; however, Lifferth would add an insurance goal at the 51:01 mark. The freshman from Saratoga Springs would complete the hat trick at the 55:45 mark when he picked up his third goal of the match on an assist from
Diogo Lobato. All totaled, the Badgers out-shot CSN, 22-7.
In women's action, sophomore
Alaina Pestana scored the first goal of the match, finding the back of the net less than one minute into the game. At the 7:46 mark, freshman
Abby Fotheringham scored her first of two goals of the afternoon.
Amanda Bryan made it 3-0 with her goal at the 58:21 mark, followed by Fotheringham's second goal at the 65:32 mark. Sydney Cragn picked up an unassisted goal at the 88:26 mark to seal the victory for the Lady Badgers. The Snow defense proved dominant on Saturday, holding CSN to zero shots on goal during the game. All totaled, the Lady Badgers out-shot the Lady Coyotes, 26-0.
Both the men's and women's soccer teams will play host to Utah State Eastern on Wednesday, May 12. The women's game will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the men's game at 3 p.m.
