The Snow College women's volleyball team finished the regular season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Utah State University Eastern in a match that will be remembered as an instant classic.
The Badgers entered the match coming off a convincing 3-0 victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College Thursday. Snow College hosted the Eagles Saturday looking to avenge the loss the Badgers suffered to USUE September 30. That match, much like Saturday's match, also went five sets.
Snow College got off to a good start and earned a 25-21 victory in the first set. The Badgers used a 7-1 run in the middle of the set to take a 19-10 lead. USUE made a run of its own and would eventually bring the score to 24-21, but the Badgers slammed the door and won the set.
USUE put Snow College in a hole after winning sets two and three, both of which by final scores of 25-22. The Eagles went on 10-5 run in the middle of the set to lead 19-13. The Badgers turned things around and went on an 8-2 run of their own to tie things up at 21. They were unable to complete the comeback as USUE won four of the final five points in set two.
Set three started out well for the Badgers. They jumped out to an 8-2 lead before the Eagles exploded for a 13-4 run to take a 15-12 lead. Snow College fought back and evened the score at 19 before USUE finished on a 6-3 run.
Set four was a back-and-forth throughout but the Badgers were able to eke out a 26-24 victory in a set that saw 13 ties and five lead changes. Snow College led 24-20 before the Eagles won the next four points to even things at 24. The Badgers then won two consecutive points to win the set to set up a winner-take-all fifth set.
Needing only 15 points to win, the Badgers jumped out to a 10-5 lead. The Eagles wouldn't go quietly and went on a 9-2 run to take a 15-14 lead needing to win by two. Snow College rallied and won four out of the next five points to win set five 18-16 and earn a 3-2 victory.
Two Badgers recorded double doubles.
Corinne Taysom handed out 37 assists while adding 12 digs.
Macie Gordon finished with 14 points and 10 digs.
Tricia Tua'one had 16 kills while Ashlynn Olsen had 14 kills.
