The Snow College men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 defeat against Arizona Western College in the District Championship match Saturday in Ephraim.
Â
The Badgers entered the match coming off a comeback victory over No. 1 Salt Lake Community College in the Region 18 Championship the week prior.  Snow College needed a win in order to guarantee a bid into the NJCAA National Tournament.
Â
It was a neck-and-neck match throughout as AWC struck first in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead.  The Badgers fired back immediately and scored less than a minute later to even the match.  It was
James Miles who took a quick feed from
Oliver Fehintola and beat the keeper.
Â
Nearly the same sequence of events repeated itself later in the first half.  The Matadors scored a goal in the 38
th minute to take a 2-1 lead, but the Badgers answered less than 90 seconds later to square up the match once again.  Nathan Banza took the ball on a breakaway down the pitch and eventually scored from about 10 yards out.
Â
The Matadors would break the tie for good in the 62
nd minute as they took a 3-2 lead that would hold until the final buzzer sounded.  Snow College outshot the Matadors, 11-8, and also had more shots on goal, 5-4, but were unable to overcome the goal deficit.
Â
Snow College will now have to await its fate in regard to the NJCAA National Tournament.  They will need to receive an at-large bid in order to continue its season.  Stay tuned to snowbadgers.com to see if the Badgers will be selected to play in the tournament.
