Third Quarter Propels Badgers to Victory Over Spartans

The Snow College women's basketball team earned a dominant victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College Friday in Ephraim.  With the victory, the Badgers have now won five out of their last seven games.

The Badgers came into Friday's matchup after suffering its worst loss of the season to Utah State University Eastern.  The Eagles defeated the Badgers 75-54 in Price.  

The Badgers turned the page and welcomed CNCC to town in their final home game of 2022.  The Spartans came into the matchup with a 4-6 overall record and an 0-1 mark within the SWAC.  They had lost four out of their previous six matchups.
 
The Spartans maintained contact with the Badgers throughout the first half.  Snow College led most of the first quarter before CNCC evened things up at 12 apiece with under a minute to go before the Badgers took a 17-14 lead into the second quarter. 
 
CNCC took a brief three-point lead in the second quarter before the Badgers went on an 8-0 run to regain the advantage.  Snow College would eventually stretch the lead to 33-26 heading into the halftime break.
 
The Badgers broke it open to begin the third quarter using a 17-2 run to take a 50-28 lead.  They would outscore the Spartans 23-8 during the third quarter and held a 56-34 lead at the end of the period.
 
Snow College would keep its foot on the pedal in the fourth quarter.  The Badgers would outscore the Spartans 19-18 in the final period to claim the 75-52 victory.  Snow College held the Spartans to just 24 percent from the field and 2-19 from 3-point range.  
 
Suguturaga would lead the Badgers in scoring for the ninth time this season finishing with 14 points and six rebounds.  Vaifanua was the only other Badger in double figures as she finished with 12 points.  Marika Collins, Reagan Yamauchi, and Emily Evans each put in nine points to aid in the victory.
 
Snow College will now take a break from SWAC play to participate in the Lady Jets Holiday Classic in Americus, Georgia, where they will face a trio of opponents including No. 4 South Georgia Tech, No. 1 Eastern Florida State College, and Georgia Highlands College.
