Men's Basketball Squares Off With Saints

OPENING TIP
 
• No. 13/16 Snow College will return home after nearly a month of games on the road to take on No. 2 Salt Lake Community College inside the Horne Activity Center in Ephraim.
 
• The Badgers will take on the Bruins Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7:00 p.m.  This is the first of three games the two teams will play against each other this season.
 
• Snow College began Scenic West Athletic Conference play over the weekend in Las Vegas.  The Badgers collected two victories over the College of Southern Nevada winning 86-79 Friday, and 87-78 Saturday.
 
• Following the victories, the Badgers climbed from 16th in the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Rankings to 13th.  They also moved from 18th to 16th in the JUCO Advocate Media Poll.
 
• Sophomore Forward Zach Visentin scored a career-high 28 points in the Badger's 79-86 victory Friday night.  Visentin shot 11-17 from the field and 5-7 from the free-throw line.  He also grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds and dished out four assists.  The 28-point, 12-rebound performance was the first double-double the Sophomore has recorded in his career.  Visentin has scored in double figures in seven of the Badger's 11 games this season and is currently averaging 11.7 points per game.
 
• The Badger's defense limited the Coyotes to just 5.9 percent on 1-17 shooting from 3-point range in Friday's win.  This marks the lowest 3-point percentage and the fewest made 3's the Badgers have allowed all season.
 
• Snow College was outrebounded in both games over the weekend.  Up to this point in the season, the Badgers had only been outrebounded by an opponent once which came in their 72-66 victory over No. 2 Florida SouthWestern State College Nov. 12.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
 
• The Badgers are one of the top teams in the country at making 3-pointers.  Snow College makes an average of 11.7 3-pointers per game which is the third-best mark in the nation.  The Badgers trail Daytona State by one 3-pointer made per game for second place and trail Western Oklahoma by 3.7 for first place.
 
• Snow College is crashing the glass effectively to start the season.  They rank 8th in the nation at offensive rebounds per game at 17.0.  They also come in at 14th overall in total rebounds per game at 46.5.  
 
• The Badgers fall just outside the top 20 in assists per game.  Snow College hands out an average of 19.9 assists per game which slots them at 21st in the nation.
 
• Snow College has been one of the best teams in the country at defending the 3-point line.  The Badgers are fifth in the country in opponent's 3-point percentage allowing makes on just 24.6 percent of attempts.
 
• The Badgers are still among the nation's best in defensive efficiency.  Snow College is allowing just .82 points per possession defensively which is the sixth-best mark in the country.
 
ABOUT COMMUNTITY CHRISTIAN
 
• The Saints have struggled out of the gate to begin the season.  They are winless in 12  games this season and are coming off back-to-back against the College of Southern Idaho.  This is coming off a season that saw them go just 1-26 overall and 1-16 within the SWAC.
 
• Community Christian is dead last in the country in points per game averaging just 52.3 points per game.   The Saints are also last in overall field goal percentage at just 34.5 percent.
 
• The Saints are one of the worst teams in the country at grabbing rebounds.  They average 16.3 rebounds per game and are being outrebounded by an average of 33.8 rebounds per game.
 
• Community Christian is next to last in the country at assists per game averaging just 4.3 per contest.
 
• Snow College is 4-0 overall all time against Community Christian College.  The Badgers average 104.3 points per game against the Saints.  Their largest margin of victory was a 107-53 defeate Feb. 24, 2022.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
The Snow College men's basketball team suffered its second loss of the season Wednesday in a 92-67 defeat against No. 2 Salt Lake Community College.  
 
The Badgers came into Wednesday's game having won three consecutive games including their first two games of Scenic West Athletic Conference play against the College of Southern Nevada.  The two victories vaulted Snow College to No. 13 in the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Rankings and set up a top-15 showdown with the No. 2 Bruins.
 
Snow College would end up shooting its worst percentage from the field all season against the Bruins.  The Badgers connected on just 37 percent of shots from the field including going 10-30 from 3-point range.  Meanwhile, SLCC shot 14-27 from distance, its second-highest percentage of any game this season, while also shooing 55 percent from the field.
 
The Badgers held a one-point lead midway through the first half.  Things quickly changed as the Bruins caught fire from the field.  Over the next 12 minutes of action, SLCC shot 12-15 from the field including 8-10 from beyond the arc. During that time, SLCC outscored the Badgers 35-16 and would eventually take a 48-29 lead into the halftime break.
 
Snow College shot just 32 percent from the field in the first half.  SLCC on the other hand shot 60 percent from the field including 9-15 from 3-point range. 
 
The Badgers made a run to begin the second half.  They cut the lead to 14 points, but the Bruins quickly went on a 7-0 run in just over a minute to retake a 21-point lead.  The Bruins led by as many as 27 before cruising to a 92-67 victory.
 
Three Badgers finished in double figures led by Clayton Southwick who scored 13 points on 4-6 shooting from distance.  Dayshawn Wiley poured in 11 points while Hayden Franson finished with 10 points and four rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
 
• The Badgers will take on Utah State University Eastern Wednesday, Dec. 14 inside the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center.
 
• The Eagles have jumped out to an 8-3 overall record to begin the season.  they are 0-1 within the SWAC after dropping their opening match against the College of Southern Idaho.  
 
• USUE is averaging 71.8 points per game which slots them near the bottom of the category in the country.  They shoot just 28.4 percent from 3-point range which which is among the worst in the country.
