The Snow College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday at the hands of the No. 4 ranked Salt Lake Community College Bruins in Taylorsville. The 2-0 loss snaps an 11-game road winning streak for the Badgers coming into the match.
It was a fairly evenly matched first half for each team. Both teams had several opportunities at scoring in the first 45 minutes but none were successful. The Bruins did double up the Badgers in total shot attempts - 10-5 - in the first half. Snow College was able to put three shots on goal compared to SLCC's four. Both teams went into halftime scoreless.
It was in the second half when the Bruin's defense began to impose their will. They were able to maintain possession for much of the period. What's more, they did not allow a single shot for Snow College through the entire half. In addition to the lack of shots, the Badgers were unable to even record a corner kick during the final frame.
Two goals made the difference in the match. The first came in the 74th minute at the feet of Lexi Vernsey. She was assisted by Saige Stuart and was able to beat Snow College Keeper McKenna Conley for the goal. Â
The second was an unassisted goal by Jordan Roe which came in the 82nd minute. The two-goal lead was all the Bruins needed to keep the Badgers at bay and hand them their first loss of the season.
Snow College will now turn its attention to Truckee Meadows Community College. The Badgers will try and tame the Lizards Saturday with kickoff scheduled at 12 noon MST. Visit snowbadgers.com for additional information.
