Snow College Wraps Up Non-Conference Schedule

UNDEFEATED AND IT FEELS SO GOOD: The Snow College women's volleyball team participated in the Dalton Overstreet Invitational in Prescott, Arizona over the weekend and came away with three victories.  
 
The Badgers defeated Arizona Western College 3-2 to kick off the tournament followed by a 3-0 sweep against host school Yavapai College Friday.  No. 3 Snow College then defeated No. 2 New Mexico Military Institute 3-1 to extend its winning streak to begin the season to six games.
 
The undefeated Badgers will get in their final tune-ups before beginning Scenic West Athletic Conference play as they participate in the Starr Corporation Tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho.  Snow College will face a juggernaut of a schedule at the tournament as it will play five matches total, four against teams in the top 12 of the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Rankings.  
 
The Badgers will kick things off against No. 12 Missouri State West Plains Thursday at 5 p.m. followed by a rematch against No. 7 Miami Dade Friday at 11 a.m.  Snow College defeated the Sharks 3-0 August 19.  
 
The Badgers lone match against a non-ranked opponent will take place Friday at 3 p.m. against Western Wyoming Community College.  Snow College will finish the tournament facing off against No. 20 Monroe College Friday at 7:30 p.m. and a rematch with No. 3 NMMI Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
 
MOVING ON UP: With Snow College's 3-1 victory against the NMMI Broncos, the Badgers have moved up in the NJCAA rankings.  Snow College earned 133 points to move up to number two in the standings trailing only Florida Southwestern State College, who sit atop the rankings with 160 points(eight first-place votes) and an unblemished 5-0 record.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College women's volleyball team had a successful weekend at the Dalton Overstreet Invitational in Prescott, Arizona as it came away with three wins, headlined by a victory over No. 2 New Mexico Military Institute (3-1) Saturday.
 
The Badgers also came away with victories over Arizona Western College (3-2) and Yavapai College (3-0) Friday.
 
Snow College got the weekend started off right with a victory over AWC.  A back-and-forth first set saw the Matadors take a 1-0 lead with a 31-29 victory.  The Badgers would respond by winning the next two sets 25-19 and 25-16 before dropping set four 25-22 to set up a sudden death fifth set.
 
Snow College was able to finish off the match with a 15-9 win in set five to claim a 3-2 victory.  Three players finished in double figures in kills led by Bailey Rasmussen and Tricia Tua'one who each had 14 while Kesa Makasini finished the match with 13 kills.  Corinne Taysom secured a double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs.  Meg Carter recorded 27 assists while Avery Fowler and Hannah Smith had 14 and 13 digs, respectively. 
 
The Badgers followed up the win by taking on host school YC and cruising to a 3-0 sweep winning 25-22, 25-16, and 26-24.  Makasini again led the Badgers with 14 kills.  Taysom and Carter combined to dish out 44 helpers. Fowler led the team with 14 digs to aid in the victory.
 
Saturday's matchup saw a top-5 showdown as No. 3 Snow College took on No. 2 NMMI.  The Badgers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with wins of 25-23 and a convincing 25-13 set-two win.  The Broncos rebounded to take set three 25-16 before the Badgers slammed the door with a 25-21 set-four win to earn a 3-1 victory.
 
Makasini and Ashlynn Olsen totaled 13 kills apiece while Taysom finished with 20 assists and Carter added 21 assists.  Fowler grabbed 18 digs while Sage Loveland provided 17 digs for the victorious Badgers.
 
UP NEXT: Snow College will play its 2022 home-opener as it begins SWAC play by taking on the College of Southern Idaho Thursday, September 22, followed by a match against Salt Lake Community College Saturday, September 24.  Thursday's match is set to begin at 6 p.m., with Saturday's meeting to start at 1 p.m.  Both matches will be played inside the Horne Activity Center.  For video streaming and live stats information, visit snowbadgers.com.
