Utah State Eastern Eagles Rise Above Badgers in Price

The Snow College men's basketball team suffered a 76-55 defeat to Utah State University Eastern Thursday in Price.

The Badgers entered Thursday's game on a three-game losing streak, their last win being Dec. 29, 2022 against Mesa Community College. So far in 2023, Snow College has been unsuccessful in their attempts for victory. They have lost to the College of Southern Idaho, the College of Southern Nevada, and Salt Lake Community College. In their last outing, the Badgers were outscored by the Bruins 76-91 in Taylorsville.

Snow College headed to Price to face USUE for the second time this season. Their last matchup was Dec. 14, 2022 where the Badgers gained a 66-64 win on the road. In that game, Snow College held USUE to shoot only 35.8% from the field, which propelled the Badgers to victory. Between the two teams' history, Snow College holds the winning record at 30 games to 10. The Badgers came into Thursday's game with a season record of 14-7 and the Eagles with a record of 5-15.

As the game began, the Eagles came out ready to play. At the halfway mark of the first half, the Eagles led the Badgers 20-16. Snow College pushed to stay close behind, but USUE's offense proved to be too much to handle. In the first half, the Eagles shot 50% from the field and were led by Dyson Lighthall who scored eight points on 4-6 shooting. The Badgers shot a mere 35.7% from the field, and went just 1-14 from 3-point range. USUE dominantly closed out the first half and outscored Snow College 37-23.

The Badgers would not be able to build momentum in the second half, and they continued to chase the Eagles. The closest Snow College would trail USUE in the second half was by 13 points, which happened around the halfway mark. The Eagles continued to push their lead, and were ahead by as many as 23 points. They were led by Jack Jamele who scored 13 points in the second half alone on 5-6 shooting from the field and 2-3 from 3-point range. The Badger's offense improved in the second half as they shot 47.4% as opposed to their first half 35.7%, yet it wouldn't be enough to earn them the victory. The Eagles outscored the Badgers 39-32 in the second half, leading them to a 76-55 win at home.

This was the lowest scoring game for the Badgers of the season, and they had only one player in double figures. Snow College's Dylan Jones finished the game with 10 points. Jamir Stephens had 9 points while Chase Potter, Zach Visentin, and Hayden Franson each put in seven points.

The Badgers will continue their road-stretch to take on Colorado Northwestern Community College Saturday Jan. 28 at 3:00 p.m in Rangely, Co.

This will be the teams' second matchup of the season. In their last game, the Badgers outscored the Spartans 89-61. They will face one more time in the regular season Feb. 25 at 3:00 p.m. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
