Women's Soccer Looks to Secure Spot in Region Tourney vs USUE, CNCC

OPENING KICKOFF: The Snow College women's soccer team will enter the final weekend of the season and take on Utah State University Eastern Thursday and Colorado Northwestern Community College Saturday.

Thursday's match against the Eagles will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Price with Saturday's season finale against the Spartans scheduled to kick off at 11:00 a.m. in Rangely.

The Badgers are coming off a tale of two games as they claimed a 10-0 victory against Pacific Northwest Christian College and a 4-2 defeat against Truckee Meadows Community College.

The Badgers now sit at 7-4-1 overall and 6-3-1 within the Scenic West Athletic Conference and are seated in third place within the standings just ahead of TMCC.  The Badgers control their destiny for the second spot within the Region 18 Tournament at the end of the season.  If they are able to defeat the Eagles and the Spartans, they will enter the postseason as the two seed.  They cannot finish lower than fourth and have solidified a postseason berth.

KNOW YOUR FOE: Utah State University Eastern sits at 8-2-2 overall and 6-2-2 within SWAC play They are coming off a 1-0 loss against the College of Southern Nevada.  Following the matchup with Snow College, the Eagles will finish their regular season against No. 5 Salt Lake Community College.

Snow College and USUE played to a 1-1 draw when they played earlier in the season.  The Eagles scored just 19 seconds into the second half, but the Badgers quickly responded.  It was Daisha Wagner who netted the equalizer and the game ended in a tie.  The winner of the matchup Saturday will take sole control of the two seed in the Region 18 Tournament.

CNCC is 5-9-1 overall and 2-7-1 within the SWAC.  Their only conference victories have come against the conference's newest member, Pacific Northwestern Christian College.  The Badgers earned a 2-0 victory over the Spartans Sept. 23.

The Badgers have never lost to the Spartans and have won each of the first 14 matchups since 2016.  They have only surrendered one goal to the Spartans, a 9-1 victory Sept. 22, 2022.

LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College women's soccer team split a pair of games over the weekend defeating Pacific Northwest Community College 10-0 followed by a 2-0 loss against Truckee Meadows Community College.

The Badgers entered the weekend off a 5-0 victory over the College of Southern Nevada last Saturday.  Saige Meryhew recorded the first hat trick of the season for the Badgers and was named the Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week as a result.

Snow College earned a 12-0 victory against the Gladiators earlier in the season and Thursday's matchup would follow a similar suit.  Three Badgers scored two goals each including Emily Morrill, Kadyn Hydar, and Meryhew.

Hydar got the scoring started early for the Badgers as she scored in the third minute.  She would add her second goal of the game in the 15th minute.  Madelyn McQueen, Katie Anderson, Ali Spencer, and Rylee Everton also scored goals as the Badgers claimed the 10-0 victory.

Following the victory, Snow College squared off with TMCC, a team it defeated 8-1 earlier in the season. Saturday would be a much different story as the Badgers would suffer a 2-0 defeat.

Snow College surrendered two goals, one in the first half and one in the second half, to lose to the Lizards for the first time in program history. The Badgers were 9-0-1 all time against TMCC leading up to Saturday's matchup.

With the loss, the Badgers record now stands at 7-4-1 overall and 6-3-1 within SWAC play.  They are currently sitting in third place within the SWAC standings sitting just behind Utah State University Eastern.

The Badger's next matchup will be against USUE with the winner taking sole control of second place in the standings.  The two will square off Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Price.  The Badgers will then wrap up their regular season against Colorado Northwestern Community College Saturday at 11:00 a.m.  For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
