Meryhew's Hat Trick Lifts Badgers Over Coyotes

The Snow College women's soccer team claimed a 5-0 victory over the College of Southern Nevada Saturday in Ephraim.  Saige Meryhew recorded a hat trick to aid in the victory for the Badgers.

Snow College was coming off a 2-0 defeat against Salt Lake Community College last weekend.  The Badgers sat in third place within the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings behind SLCC and Utah State University Eastern.

The Badgers were looking for revenge against the Coyotes, who they lost to earlier in the season.  The victory by the Coyotes is still their only win of the year.  Snow College answered the call with its fourth shutout of the season.

Meryhew got the scoring started early as she found the back of the net in the fifth minute off a feed from McQueen, a combo that would be a common theme throughout the match.  Meryhew would provide the helper on the second goal of the game as she fed Emily Morrill to give the Badgers a 2-0 lead in the 15th minute.

McQueen and Meryhew would hook up once again in the 27th minute, and Snow College would take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

It was a quiet first 25 minutes to begin the second half, but the Badgers scored twice within two minutes to take a 5-0 lead.  The first was off the foot of Meryhew, who recorded her first hat trick of the season.

The final goal of the match was scored by Breanne Wayman. McQueen once again provided the assist, her fourth of the match.  The four assists set a school record for assists in a game breaking the previous mark of three.

With the win, the Badgers improve to 6-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 within SWAC play.  They will play each of their final four matches on the road beginning with Pacific Northwest Christian College and Truckee Meadows Community College next week.  Snow College will first meet with the Gladiators Thursday at 1:00 p.m. following a match with the Lizards Saturday at 11:00 a.m.  for video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
