Badgers Fall to Tritons in Game One Bowl

The Snow College football team finished its season with a 44-9 defeat against Iowa Central Community College in the Game One Bowl in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  The Badgers finish the 2023 campaign with a 9-3 overall record.

After finishing fifth in the final NJCAA Football Poll of the regular season, the Badgers were selected to participate in the 45thGame One Bowl.  They were pitted against the No. 11 Tritons of ICCC.  The Tritons finished the regular season with a 6-4 overall record.

Things started off promising for the Badgers.  They forced a 3-and-out on their first possession, but the snap was mishandled by the ICCC punter, and the Badgers recovered the fumble.  They took over at the ICCC 16-yard line but were unable to capitalize and turned the ball over three plays later.

The Tritons couldn't get any momentum going on offense following the interception and failed to gain a first down and punted the ball back to the Badgers.  Jared Wilson returned the punt 23 yards to the ICCC 24-yard line.  Despite not gaining a first down, Casey Keeslar gave the Badgers a 3-point lead on a field goal four plays later.

ICCC tied the game on its following possession as it marched down the field on 10 plays.  The drive halted at the Badgers' 8-yard line, but the field goal was successful tying the game at three apiece.

The Badgers continued to struggle offensively.  Snow College, who led the nation in total first downs, failed to record a first down on their own merits until their final drive of the first half.  They managed just 54 yards of total offense in the first 30 minutes.

ICCC scored a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 17-3 lead into the halftime break.  The Tritons also scored on their opening possession of the third quarter to gain a 24-3 advantage.

The Badgers were just not able to get anything going offensively in the second half.  Each of their first seven possessions in the second half ended in a turnover, four of which were interceptions and the other three were on downs.  They recorded their lone touchdown of the game with three minutes to go.

ICCC scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and earned the 44-9 victory.  The 35-point loss is the largest margin of defeat for the Badgers in the Zac Erekson era.

Snow College managed just 138 yards of total offense throughout the game.  The defense surrendered 403 yards of total offense to the Tritons, the second-highest total they've allowed an opponent this season.

The Badgers will finish the season with a 9-3 overall record.  They will now begin their offseason and look to play another full schedule of football next fall.
