Badgers Suffer Painful Home Defeat Against CSI

The Snow College women's basketball team experienced a difficult 80-37 loss at the hands of the No. 4 College of Southern Idaho Wednesday night in Ephraim. With this loss, the Badgers fall to 10-14 overall and 7-8 within the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

Snow College came into Wednesday's matchup after an emphatic 66-59 victory against the Salt Lake Community College Bruins last Thursday in Ephraim. Despite there being six lead changes throughout the game, the Badgers would go on to earn the win. Snow College faced off against the CSI Golden Eagles just two weeks ago at home where they were defeated 72-61 in a hard-fought battle.

As Wednesday's game began, the first five minutes of play would prove to be a back-and-forth battle. There were several lead changes within the opening five minutes, and the Badgers would even go on to lead 10-7. However, from that point on, the Golden Eagles would push ahead and not look back. CSI went on a dominant 12-0 run as the first quarter came to a 19-10 close.

The second quarter would prove to be even more challenging for the Badgers. Snow College struggled offensively and shot just 26.7 percent from the field. As the first half wound down, the Golden Eagles outscored the Badgers 22-8. The second quarter of play ended with Snow College trailing 41-18.

As the second half began, CSI would continue to extend its lead. In the third quarter the Badgers faltered with six turnovers while the Golden Eagles had only one. CSI took advantage of these turnovers and outscored Snow College 20-7. The third quarter came to a 61-25 close.

In the final quarter of the game, the Badger's offensive woes continued. Snow College shot a mere 33 percent compared to CSI's 53.8. In the fourth quarter, the Badgers were outscored 19-12, and the Golden Eagles would soar to a powerful 80-37 victory.

In total, Snow College gave up 24 turnovers which would be their second-highest turnover game of the season. In addition, the Badgers failed to have a player score double figures. This snapped Samiana Suguturaga's streak of 15 straight games with at least 10 points.

Suguturaga did lead the Badgers in scoring, however, finishing with seven points and six rebounds. Jessica Lange also added seven points while Emmie Barnes put in six points and grabbed four rebounds.

Snow College will now prepare to face Community Christian College Friday and Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. in the Horne Activity Center. For video streaming and live stat information visit snowbadgers.com.
