GAME NOTES: The nation's two best offenses square off as the Snow College football team hosts No. 3 Georgia Military College Saturday in Ephraim. The top-four matchup is poised to have major playoff implications. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. inside Terry Foote Stadium.
Snow College is coming off its largest victory of the season. The Badgers defeated Pacific Northwest Christian College 80-0 last weekend in Kennewick, Washington. The victory improved the Badgers to 6-1 overall.
Snow College excelled both offensively and defensively against the Gladiators. They gained 573 yards of total offense and scored 11 total touchdowns. Defensively, the Badgers allowed a total of negative 11 yards of total offense including negative 46 yards rushing.
Badgers' quarterback
Donnie Smith threw five touchdown passes for the second time in a game this season. He continues to pace the nation with 25 total touchdown passes. Smith threw a total of 26 touchdown passes throughout the entirety of the 2023 season.
Reggie Frischknecht caught a pair of touchdown passes in the Badgers' victory against PNWCC increasing his regular-season total to 10, which leads the nation. He has 24 receptions for a total of 522 yards through the first seven games of the season.
As a team, the Badgers are gaining an average a 455.7 yards per game this season, which slots them at third overall in Division I. They are also scoring an average of 50.3 points per game, which paces the nation.
GMC also boasts a stout offense as the Bulldogs enter Saturday's matchup with the nation's second-best offense behind Snow College. The Bulldogs score an average of 50.1 points per game and lead the nation in rushing yards with 290.1 per game. Snow College has allowed the fourth fewest rushing yards per game this season at just 49.3.
The Bulldogs offense is led by two of the best running backs in the country. Keenan Phillips leads all running backs in Division I with 15 rushing touchdowns this year. His backfield running mate Trevon Kinchen is fourth overall with 10 ground scores of his own.
LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College football team recorded their fourth shutout victory of the season in an 80-0 victory against Pacific Northwest Christian College Saturday in Kennewick, Washington. The Badgers now sit ay 6-1 overall.
Snow College entered the weekend following a 31-20 loss against No. 2 Iowa Western Community College. The matchup with the Gladiators served as the final game of the current four-game road swing. The Badgers will now play three of their remaining four games of the season at home.
The Badgers had their best offensive performance of the season despite turning the ball over on their first possession of the game. The defense forced a punt on the Gladiators' first possession. Snow College needed just four plays to score their first of 11 touchdowns of the game. It was a 34-yard pass from
Donnie Smith to
Reggie Frischknecht to give the Badgers a 7-0 lead.
Smith would throw two more touchdown passes in the first quarter. The first of which was a 22-yard pitch and catch to
Kache Kaio midway through the opening stanza. The second was another touchdown pass to Frischknecht, this one was 26 yards to give the Badgers a 21-0 lead. Frischknecht leads all of Division I in touchdown receptions with 10.
The Badgers scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
Drew Patterson took a 37-yard run all the way to the house.
Adonis Tillman found the end zone on the next drive from 56 yards out to give the Badgers a 35-0 lead.
The next two touchdowns came on long, sustained drives for the Badgers. They used an 11-play, 53-yard drive which culminated in an 11-yard touchdown pass from Smith to
Matt Wilson. The final score of the first half came on the heels of a 10-play, 68-yard drive as Smith threw his fifth touchdown pass of the game to
Kaden Eggett.
The Badgers recorded their first successful field goal of the season in the early minutes of the second half. After the drive stalled,
Ethan Mann drilled a 44-yard field goal to extend the lead to 52-0.
Kyson Condie shouldered much of the load for the Badgers on their next drive as he had a pair of rushes totaling 29 yards. The second of which was a 2-yard carry that found the endzone.
The Badgers' defense got in on the scoring fun to begin the fourth quarter.
Ty Smith was able to haul in an interception and return it 35 yards for a touchdown, giving the Badgers a 66-0 lead. This is the first time since October 1, 2022, the Badgers have returned an interception for a touchdown.
Snow College's final two touchdowns came via the run game as
Drew Patterson scored on the ground from two yards out. Easton Bretzon scored on a 7-yard rush to bring the score to 80-0 on the Badgers' final drive of the game.
The Badgers racked up 573 yards of total offense. Defensively, Snow College held the Gladiators to negative 11 yards of total offense throughout the game. This is the first game allowing negative yards to an opponent since allowing negative 12 yards in a 77-0 victory against Gordon's Fine Arts Academy during the 2020 season.
Smith finished with 240 yards and five touchdown passes. He leads the nation in touchdown passes with 25, four ahead of the next-highest quarterback. Patterson recorded 15 carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Frischknecht caught four passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns to aid in the victory.

ON THE SIDELINE: Zac Erekson will enter his fifth year as head coach of the Badgers. He owns a 32-8 overall record with the team since taking over the position in the fall of 2020. His nine wins from last season are the most he's recorded in any season for the club.
Erekson's team have been ranked inside the NJCAA Division I Football Poll every week he's been the head coach. He has secured eight victories over his first four seasons against other ranked teams and has yet to lose to an unranked team.
Erekson has amassed a 19-2 overall record in games played inside Terry Foote Stadium. His teams are also 13-3 in road games and have never lost back-to-back games in his time at the helm.
He will be joined on the sideline by returning coaches
Jordan Pulou (Missouri S&T; third season) as Defensive Coordinator, Trevor McFalls (Southern Utah University; third season) as Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coordinator,
Lanny Owens (McMurray; second season) as Tight Ends Coach, and
Neil Pau'u (Brigham Young University; second season) as Wide Receivers Coach.
Erekson will bring four new coaches onto his staff for the 2024 season including Defensive Backs Coach/Special Teams Coordinator/JV Team Head Coach Michael O'Neal (Norwich; 1st season), Defensive Line Coach
Ricky Ali'ifua (Utah State University; 1st season), and Running Backs Coach
Matt Beecher (Brigham Young University; 1st season).

The Broncos own a 3-4 overall record this season and are coming off a 16-15 loss against Northwestern Oklahoma A&M College last weekend.
