Men's Soccer Concludes Regular Season with Pair of Draws

The Snow College men's soccer team tied both its matches over the weekend against Truckee Meadows Community College (2-2) and the College of Southern Idaho (1-1) in final regular-season matches.

Snow College was coming off victories over No. 11 North Idaho College and Pacific Northwest Christian College last weekend. The No. 17 Badgers defeated the Cardinals 2-1 and the Gladiators 1-0.

The two draws pushed the Badgers 2024 regular season record to 11-3-2 overall with a 9-3-2 conference record. 

The Lizards started the scoring in Thursday's match in the 9th minute. Jack Cook then tied up the game with a goal in the 35th minute. The game would enter halftime tied at one.

The Lizards regained the lead in the 51st minute when the Badgers committed an own goal. Cook scored in the 58th minute to knot the match at two. The game would wrap up with no more goals, ending in a 2-2 tie, the first for the Badgers this season.

Both teams took 11 shots with nine on goal through the 90 minutes. Mathias Christensen tallied three saves against the Lizards.

The Badgers then faced CSI for the second time in program history. Snow College drew for the second time this season with the Golden Eagles (1-1). The Badgers defeated the Golden Eagles 6-2 in their first matchup this season.

Nefthaly Loya opened the scoring with his 10th goal this season. Loya netted his goal in the 7th minute assisted by Cook. 

The Golden Eagles then received a red card in the 29th minute and were forced to play a man down for the remainder of the match. CSI didn't slow down and knotted the game at one in the 37th minute. 

The match ended in a 1-1 draw after eight shots on goal in total for the Badgers. Christensen turned away three of the four shots on goal by the Golden Eagles. Christensen tallied a total of 43 saves for the season.

The Badgers will enter the Region 18 tournament as the 2-seed and will face the 3-seed NIC Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Taylorsville, Utah. Salt Lake Community College will host the tournament after clinching the first seed with a 13-0-1 conference record. The Bruins will play against the four seed Utah State University Eastern Thursday at 1 p.m., also in Taylorsville, Utah.

The winner of the Badgers and Cardinals will face off against the winner of the Bruins and Eagles for the championship Saturday at 2:00 p.m. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
