The Snow College volleyball team dropped its match against No. 7 Utah State University Eastern 3-1. All four sets were kept very close with no more than four points separating each set. The Badgers entered the weekend with a 10-5 overall record.
The Badgers were coming off a two-game sweep against Colorado Northwestern Community College and Salt Lake Community College winning both games 3-0. Snow College extended to a 31-game win streak against CNCC and defeated SLCC for the first time since 2021.
The first set in Wednesday's matchup was very close the entire time with the largest lead being 21-16 in favor of the Badgers. The Eagles rallied to pull the game back to one. The next six points went back-and-forth putting the Badgers on the verge of winning at 24-22.Â
The Eagles scored two points to push the game to 24-24. The Badgers and Eagles split the next four points to go 26-26 before Liv Marshall scored on back-to-back volleys for the Badgers with a kill and service ace.
The second set stayed very close with rallies going back-and-forth to keep the game tight. The set was knotted at 19 when the Eagles went on a four-point run to push the Badgers just out of reach. The Eagles won two of the next three points to claim the second set 25-22.
The Eagles went on an early four-point burst to begin the third set before the Badgers came knocking back to put the game close. Snow College then went on a five-point run of their own to go up 13-8, its largest lead of the set.
The next few points had USUE take the lead before Snow College answered back to tie the set at 19-19. However, the Eagles then scored six of the next nine points to win the set 25-22.
The fourth set started out rough for the Badgers falling behind 9-3. The next 17 points came and went, putting the score 17-12 in favor of USUE. The Badgers went on a five-point run to tie the game at 17.Â
USUE then scored seven of the next 11 points to go up 24-21. The Badgers were not ready to fall, going on a three-point burst to knot the game at 24. The next two points were split to push the game to 25-25 before the Eagles scored the final two points to win the set 27-25.
Marshall led the Badgers in kills with 15, with Maggie Larsen adding 10 of her own. Kinley Kerbs tallied 26 total assists to lead the Badgers. Aspen Anderson led in digs with 13, closely followed by Kerbs and Marshall with 12 each, and Grace Holley with 11. Cass Klapp had 8 total blocks in the match with four solo blocks and four block assists.
The Badgers will go on the road against the College of Southern Idaho Thursday Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. The match will take place in Twin Falls, Idaho inside the CSI Gymnasium. Following Thursday's match, the Badgers will travel to North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
