Badgers Win Third Straight Behind Frischknecht’s Record Day

The Snow College football team wrapped up its regular season with a 62-21 victory against Sussex County Community College Saturday in Ephraim.  Reggie Frischknecht broke the school record for touchdown receptions in a season.

Snow College entered the final game of the season following a 57-7 victory against Monroe University the previous weekend.  The Badgers have now won three consecutive games against the Mustangs.

The first quarter against the Skylanders started slow as each team punted on each of their first two possessions.  The Badgers broke through on their third possession as Frischknecht broke a school record.

After driving down the field, the Badgers were faced with a 1st-and-goal from the 5-yard line.  Frischknect was targeted on the first two plays but both passes fell incomplete.  A rush on 3rd down went nowhere and the Badgers went for it on 4th down.  Donnie Smith again targeted Frishknecht and finally made a connection for the touchdown.

With the touchdown, Frischknect set a new school record for touchdown receptions in a season with 12.  He wasted no time in adding to the record as he was on the receiving end of the next Badgers' touchdown.  The Badgers used eight plays to drive 88 yards for the score.  Smith found Frischknect from 17 yards out to take a 14-0 lead.

Another Skylanders punt gave the Badgers the ball back in enemy territory. A 39-yard pitch and catch from Smith to Frischknecht set the Badgers up inside the 10.  Drew Patterson carried the ball three times and found the end zone on 3rd down to extend the lead, 21-0.

Snow College hit a slight bump in the road on its next possession as the snap on a field goal attempt was mishandled to give the ball to the Skylanders.  The Badgers recovered quickly as Titan Saxton intercepted the ball on the first play after the field goal attempt to get the ball back.

Smith and Frishknecht connected again, this time on a 4-yard completion, to increase the lead to 28-0.  The third touchdown reception of the game was Frischknecht's 14th of the season, which leads all pass catchers in the nation.  The Badgers would enter halftime with the lead.

SCCC opened the third quarter with a touchdown to cut into the lead, but the Badgers responded immediately.  A 17-yard rush from Adonis Tillman preceded a 37-yard passing touchdown from Smith to Kaden Eggett, giving the Badgers a 34-7 advantage after the PAT was missed.

The Badgers' defense made a goal-line stand on the Skylanders' next possession.  The offense maintained the momentum and went 96 yards down the field in 10 plays to score again.  Patterson ate up a large chunk with a 37-yard rush to enter SCCC territory.  Patterson would finish the job a few plays later from two yards out to give Snow College a 41-7 lead.

SCCC scored a touchdown on a 71-yard pass to start the fourth quarter but failed to recover an onside kick attempt, giving the Badgers great field position.  They capitalized as Smith found Shandon King for a 20-yard touchdown pass.

The Skylanders scored on another long touchdown pass, this one from 66 yards out, to bring the score to 48-21.  Snow College responded with a 5-play, 46-yard drive culminating in an 8-yard rushing touchdown from Tillman to extend the lead, 55-21.

The Badgers' final tally came on Smith's 6th touchdown pass of the game.  He found De'yhare Overstreet on the first play of the drive and Overstreet took the ball 41 yards down the field for the score, as the Badgers earned the 62-21 victory.

Smith went 20-28 for 372 yards and six touchdown passes. This is the first time a Badger has thrown for six or more touchdowns since Garrison Beach threw for seven touchdowns in a 63-18 victory over Southern Shreveport April, 2, 2021.  Smith finished the regular season with 39 touchdown passes, which is one short of the record set by Quinn Mecham, who threw 40 touchdowns during the 2009 season.

Patterson gained 100 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns in just 12 attempts.  Tillman had 94 yards and a touchdown on 17 attempts.  Frishknecht caught five passes for 79 yards and three touchdowns.  Overstreet had 83 yards and a touchdown on four catches, while Eggett also caught four passes for 86 yards and a touchdown to aid in the victory.

The Badgers finished the regular season with a 9-2 overall record.  They finished one spot shy of the NJCAA Division I Football playoff for the third year in a row and finished fifth in the final poll of the regular season.
