Women's Soccer Drops to Bruins in Region 18 Title Game

The Snow College women's soccer team fell to No. 6 Salt Lake Community College 3-1 in the Region 18 Championship game last Saturday in Taylorsville. The Badgers defeated North Idaho College 3-0 in the semifinals prior to the championship game.

The Badgers were coming off a 1-1 draw against Truckee Meadows Community College and a 4-0 victory against the College of Southern Idaho. The Badgers entered the Scenic West Athletic Conference tournament as the 2-seed and were pitted against NIC in the first round.

The semifinal match didn't see any goals in the first half. The Badgers took seven shots in the first half with four turned away by the Cardinal goalkeeper. Hayley Ogden faced two shots and saved both to keep the game scoreless.

Megan Hanson opened the scoring in the 53rd minute. Mirabel Shellabarger extended the Badger lead after netting a goal in the 70th minute. Bailee Ballard then padded the lead to three in the 81st minute.

The Badgers took 21 shots throughout the game while limiting the Cardinals to just three. The Badgers defeated the Cardinals in all three matches this season.

Snow College then took on the Bruins in the Region 18 Final Saturday. The Bruins struck first with a goal in the 27th minute. The match entered halftime with a 1-0 lead in favor of the Bruins.

SLCC reopened the scoring in the 55th minute to extend the lead to two. The Badgers then had an opportunity to answer back in the 67th minute after getting fouled inside the 18-yard box. Ali Spencer converted the foul into a goal to put the game at 2-1.

The Bruins scored once more in the 72nd minute to push the match out of reach for the Badgers. Snow College shot 16 times and allowed 20 shots throughout the match. Ogden turned away nine shots on goal for the Badgers.

After the tournament, Megan Hanson, Mirabel Shellabarger, and Bailee Ballard were all named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Badgers wrapped up play with a 15-2-2 overall record and a 11-1-2 conference mark. They will need to receive an at-large bid to the national tournament to continue their season. For additional information, visit snowbadgers.com.
