The Snow College women's basketball team collected a pair of victories against Lower Columbia College last Friday and Saturday in Ephraim.  With the victories, the Badgers improve to 10-2 overall to begin the season.
 
Snow College entered the weekend off the heels of the New Mexico Junior College Classic.  The Badgers collected one victory, a 65-47 win over Otero Junior College, at the three-day tournament. 
 
The opening minutes teeter-tottered before the Badgers used a 7-0 run to take an 11-5 advantage midway through the period.  A pair of free throws by Hadley Richins (So./Henefer, UT/North Summit HS) and a 3-pointer from Maliyah Elliott (So./Auburn, WA/Auburn Mountain View HS) gave the Badgers a 7-point lead before taking an 18-15 lead into the second quarter.
 
Snow College came out firing in the second quarter.  The Badgers scored each of the first 12 points to take a commanding 30-15 lead.  They maintained the momentum over the remaining minutes and took a 44-32 lead into the halftime break.
 
The Red Devils were able to trim into the lead in the opening minutes of the third quarter.  A 6-0 run saw the Badger's lead trimmed to 48-40 midway through the period.  LCC continued to pressure the Badgers and trailed by just seven heading into the fourth quarter.
 
Snow College scored layups on each of the first three possessions of the final period to regain a 13-point lead.  The Badgers continued to put their foot on the gas as they cruised to a 73-55 victory.
 
A very balanced score sheet saw 10 Badgers score at least four points led by Elliott, who recorded 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.  Iyana Beh (So./Murray, UT/Murray HS) finished with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 blocks to aid in the victory.
 
The two teams turned around the following day for a rematch.  The second game was much more favorable for the Badgers as they earned an 83-33 victory.  It was evident the Badgers wanted to come out with more defensive intensity.
 
The offense also played a pivotal role in the victory as they scored 17 of the first 20 points to begin the game.  The Badgers surrendered just eight points in the first 10 minutes to take a 20-8 lead into the second quarter.
 
Snow College started the second quarter with an 11-5 run to take a 31-13 palindromic lead.  Layups from Madison Hosino (So./Layton, UT/Northridge HS) and Kiriana Hawaikirangi (So./Kalgoorlie, AUS/Eastern Goldfields College) on consecutive possessions gave the Badgers a 20-point edge.  They entered halftime leading 37-19.
 
The Badgers extended the lead in the opening minutes of the third quarter.  They used a 10-0 run to take a 53-23 lead midway through the period.  They would eventually extend the lead to as many as 35 points before taking a 62-30 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
It was the Badgers' defense that shined in the final ten minutes of the game.  They surrendered just three points in the fourth quarter and forced the Red Devils to shoot just 1-14 (7.1 percent) from the field.  Snow College scored 19 of the final 20 points to earn the 83-33 victory.
 
Beh led all scorers and fell just short of a double-double with 14 points and 9 rebounds.  Richins (So./Henefer, UT/North Summit HS) and Hosino both scored 11 points in the victory.  Snow College shot 51 percent from the field in both games for the third time this season.
 
Snow College will now head onto the road for a single game and take on Casper College Tuesday in Casper, Wyoming.  The Badgers earned a 70-68 victory against the Thunderbirds during the opening weekend of the season.  Tuesday's matchup is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside Swede Erickson Thunderbird Gym.  For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
