The Snow College softball team completed a clean sweep against the College of Southern Nevada over the weekend in Las Vegas. With the wins, the Badgers have now climbed to the top of the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings with an 18-7 overall record and a 7-1 mark within conference play.
The Badgers entered the weekend following a 3-1 series against Utah State University Eastern. The matchup with the Coyotes, which was originally scheduled to be played in Ephraim, was moved the Las Vegas due to unplayable field conditions in Ephraim.
Snow College got off to a good start in game one of the series. Following a triple from Shibuya with two outs,
Kamryn Allen smashed a homer to give the Badgers a 2-0 lead following the opening frame. The Coyotes would respond with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to even the score.
The Badgers would scratch again in the third inning as Allen once again plated Shibuya, this time on a single to center field. Both teams tallied two runs in the fourth inning before the Badgers' bats exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning.
Shibuya started the inning with a homer. Hadley Walker and
Brenley Boydston, each plated runs on singles. Two runs scored on an error and Shibuya drove in two more on her second triple of the game as the Badgers took a 12-4 lead that they would hold onto to win game one.
The Badgers found themselves in a 2-0 hole following the first inning of game two. Both teams scored one run in each of the second, third, and fourth innings. Hailey Young and
Haddie Hadley combined to level the score at five in the top of the sixth inning but the Coyotes regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning.
Trailing by one entering the final frame,
Kenley Henson drew a leadoff walk. A strikeout was followed by a two-run homer by Hadley Walker to give the Badgers the lead. Hensen proceeded to slam the door in the bottom of the seventh to claim the 7-6 win.
Snow College once again opened up a two-run lead to start game three off a
Reata O'Neal single and an
Andrea Sweat sacrifice fly. Following a single run in the third from CSN, a pair of singles from
Hailey Mangum and Boydston plated two more to give the Badgers a 4-1 edge.
The Badgers would add a run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from Boydston and another in the seventh on a double from Young.
Saige Ewing kept the Coyotes at bay from inside the circle as the Badgers would go on to win 6-4.
Snow College entered game four of the series with a chance to sweep for its second consecutive weekend. The Badgers would put up eight runs on 14 hits to complete the sweep against the Coyotes.
A two-RBI single from O'Neal in the third broke the scoreless tie. O'Neal would push two more across in the fifth inning on a home run, her fourth of the season. Allen homered two batters later to add two more runs as the Badgers took a 6-0 lead. Snow College would plate two runs in the top of the sixth and would go on to win 8-4.
Boydston and Young both shined over the weekend. Boydston went 7-11 with a pair of doubles and drove in four runs. Young went 5-12 with 3 RBIs. Allen hit two homers while going 8-15 and drove in five runs for the Badgers.
The Badgers will now turn their attention to the No. 15-ranked College of Southern Idaho. The Golden Eagles own a 15-7 overall record this season and a 6-2 mark within SWAC play. They are coming off a four-game series against Salt Lake Community College that saw both teams win two games.
The four-game set will begin Friday at 1:00 p.m. at First Federal Field in Twin Falls, Idaho. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 12:00 noon first pitch. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
