Badgers Finish Third in Region 18 Tournament

The Snow College softball team had its season come to an end following a 4-3 loss to the No. 6 College of Southern Idaho Tuesday in Taylorsville.  With the loss, the Badgers finished in third place in the Region 18 Tournament.

The Badgers culminated their regular season in a four-game series against Colorado Northwestern Community College last weekend.  The Badgers split that series and finished the regular season with a 32-25 overall record.

Snow College entered the Region 18 Tournament as the three seed and was pitted against the Golden Eagles in the first round.  The Badgers went 1-7 against CSI during the regular season.

Things didn't start out well for the Badgers as they surrendered nine runs in the first inning and three runs in the second.  Hailey Mangum gave the Badgers their first three runs as she hit a solo homer in the second inning and then hit a two-run shot in the third.  The Badgers entered the bottom of the third inning trailing 12-4.

CSI added a run in the third before Allen hit her 20th home run of the season in the top of the fourth.  The Golden Eagles added three runs in the bottom of the inning and the Badgers trailed 16-5 entering the fifth.

Back-to-back singles from McCall Maxfield and Allen plated two runs.  A CSI error gave the Badgers another run, but it wasn't enough as they suffered the 16-8 loss.

Following the loss, the Badgers dropped down to the consolation bracket where they matched up against Utah State University Eastern.  The Eagles struck first blood with a run in the second inning.  Snow College responded in the bottom of the inning as Mangum hit a solo home run.

USUE retook the lead with a home run in the third.  The Badgers bolted ahead thanks to a two-run blast from Hadlee Walker to take a 3-2 lead.  They would add one more in the fifth and hold on to win, 4-2.

The win moved the Badgers along the bracket and into a rematch with CSI.  The winner of the game would go on to face No. 5 Salt Lake Community College in the Region 18 Championship.  Walker continued her hot hitting as she hit a solo homer in the first and a two-run shot in the fifth to give the Badgers a 3-0 lead.  CSI edged closer with a home run in the bottom of the fifth.

The Badgers entered the bottom of the 7th with a 3-1 lead.  A pair of walks sandwiched a strikeout, but two straight singles tied the game at three.  CSI scored the winning run on a squeeze play and earned the 4-3 victory.

Mangum paced the Badgers offensively over the three games of the tournament as she went 5-9 (.556/.600/1.667) with three home runs and four RBIs.  Aiden Fitch went 4-10 (.400/.400/.500) with a double and a run scored.

The Badgers season comes to an end with a 33-27 overall record and a 21-19 mark within conference play.
