Volleyball Begins Conference Play Against CNCC, SLCC

OPENING SERVE: The Snow College volleyball team will begin Scenic West Athletic Conference play Friday against Colorado Northwestern Community College at 6 p.m. The Badgers will also host No. 8 Salt Lake Community College Saturday at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place inside the Horne Activity Center in Ephraim, Utah.

The Badgers are coming off a loss to Western Wyoming Community College last Wednesday, Sept. 18. The Badgers dropped the match in five sets, falling to the Mustangs for the first time since 2015.

KNOW YOUR FOE: Snow College is undefeated against the Spartans with a perfect-record of 30-0. The Badgers have only dropped three total sets to the Spartans historically, with the last one being in 2019.

CNCC is off to a rocky start with a 1-12 record to begin its season. The Spartans lone victory came against Dakota College at Bottineau Aug. 31. Since then, the Spartans are on an eight-game losing streak without winning a single set.

The Badgers are 15-19 overall against the Bruins in program history. Snow College has dropped the previous six matches against SLCC, with its last victory taking place in 2021.

The Bruins are coming off of a recent 3-2 victory over WWCC to enter SWAC play, and will face off against No. 10 University of Utah Eastern before traveling to Ephraim. SLCC is 11-6 on the season with its last loss coming against Trinity Valley Community College Sept. 14. SLCC was ranked fifth and TVCC was ranked ninth at the time of the match.

LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College volleyball team dropped its last non-conference matchup last Wednesday against Western Wyoming Community College 3-2. The Badgers entered the match with a 8-4 overall record through three weekends of the season.

The Badgers were coming off of a 1-3 record during the UFirst Intermountain Invitational. The Badgers dropped matches against No. 8 Weatherford College, No. 3 New Mexico Military Institute, and No. 9 Trinity Valley Community College. The lone win came against No. 14 Eastern Arizona College.

This loss to WWCC was the first time the Badgers have lost to the Mustangs since 2015. The Badgers had only lost four sets to WWCC between the two all-time losses.

The five-game set started off with the Badgers dropping the first set 25-21. The next two sets were very close with a Snow College 26-24 second-set victory to tie up the match before dropping the third set 25-23.

The Badgers got their feet back underneath them, winning the fourth set 25-16 for the biggest point margin of the match. The Badgers then dropped the decisive fifth set 15-9, falling to the Mustangs 3-2.

Liv Marshall tallied 15 kills for the match which led the Badgers offense. Kinley Kerbs recorded 26 assists while Maryn Faddis added 22 assists against the Mustangs. Three Badgers finished in double figures in digs. Aspen Anderson and Kerbs each recorded 16 digs, while Marshall added 12.

UP NEXT: The Badgers will continue conference play against USUE Wednesday Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. The match will be played in the Horne Activity Center in Ephraim, Utah.
