The Snow College football team suffered a 40-15 loss at the hands of Iowa Western Community College last weekend in Ephraim. The Badgers now own a 3-3 overall record and will play three out of their final four games on the road.
Â
The Badgers were coming off a 55-38 victory against No. 15 Lackawanna College Sept. 27. This would serve as the final matchup between the two teams as the Falcons are transitioning to NCAA Division II next season.
Â
Saturday's matchup against the Reivers started promising for the Badgers. After forcing a punt on IWCC's first possession, both teams exchanged turnovers. Snow College took over at its own 17-yard line.
Â
A trio of long rushes set the Badgers up inside IWCC territory. The drive eventually stalled after a sack, and the Badgers were forced to try a field goal. Joseph. Brandt nailed the 38-yarder to give the Badgers a 3-0 lead.
Â
The Snow College defense struck for the second score of the game just moments later.
Tayson Reid hauled in an errant pass from Reivers quarterback Malachi Marshall at the 50-yard line. He returned the interception for a touchdown to give the Badgers a 9-0 lead after a failed two-point conversion.
Â
The Reivers turned the tide throughout the second quarter. They capitalized on three interceptions thrown by the Badgers – including one returned for a touchdown – and scored on all four of their possessions to take control of the game. The Badgers gained just 24 yards in the second quarter, and IWCC took a 34-9 lead into halftime.
Â
Following the halftime break, the skies opened up and halted the offensive production from both sides. As the rain fell, both teams traded punts to start the third quarter before exchanging turnovers to end the quarter.
Â
The Badgers would score one final time early in the fourth quarter. It came on a rush from the Reivers.
TJ Hudson stripped the ball straight from the IWCC Running back's hands. He turned and found nothing but green grass ahead, cutting the deficit to 34-15.
Â
IWCC's defense recorded the fifth combined defensive touchdown in the game. It came on a strip sack, which was recovered and returned five yards for a touchdown. The Reivers would go on to win 40-15.
Â
Matt Wilson gained 146 yards on 25 carries. It is the fourth consecutive game the Badgers have had a 100-yard rusher. As a team, the Badgers had 287 rushing yards and just 35 passing yards. It's the fewest passing yards in a game since before 2012.
Â
Snow College will now enter its final bye week of the season and prepare to take on No. 6 Georgia Military College Saturday, Oct. 25, in Milledgeville, Georgia. The Bulldogs are 6-1 overall this season and sport the nation's No. 1 offense, averaging 60.4 points per game. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. MDT inside Davenport Field.
