Women's Soccer Locks in No. 2 Seed for Region 18 Tournament with wins over CSI, TMCC

The Snow College women's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with back-to-back wins over the College of Southern Idaho and Truckee Meadows Community College last weekend. With the two victories, the Badgers secured second place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings, finishing conference play with a 9-2-3 record, and earned the No. 2 seed for the Region 18 Tournament, which begins Thursday.

 

In Thursday's match against the Golden Eagles, the Badgers earned a 3-0 victory. Scoring opened in the 17th minute when Madi Thurgood found the back of the net off an assist from Bailee Ballard. Ballard then added a goal of her own just four minutes later in the 21st minute, assisted by Saige Meryhew. Meryhew capped off the scoring in the 29th minute, assisted by Kelsie Peterson, to secure the 3-0 lead and eventual win.

 

The Badgers totaled 11 shots, including five on goal, while holding CSI to nine shots and three on target.

 

In Saturday's matchup against the Lizards, the Badgers claimed a 3-1 victory. Snow College opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Hadley Leonard slotted one past the keeper for her first goal of the season, assisted by Ballard. In the 57th minute, Caliyah Wagner also netted her first goal of the season, striking from just outside the 18-yard box. 

 

TMCC responded in the 62nd minute, lofting a shot over goalkeeper Daisy Williams to cut the lead to 2-1. However, Ballard sealed the win in the 86th minute with her eighth goal of the season, assisted by Adelle Grimley.

 

The Badgers dominated offensively, outshooting TMCC 24-4, including 10 shots on goal, while holding the Lizards to just three attempts on target. Snow College closed out the regular season with the 3-1 win.
 

Postseason play begins Thursday, as Snow College enters the Region 18 Tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Badgers will face Utah State University Eastern beginning at 10:45 a.m. The tournament will take place in Taylorsville, Utah, hosted by Salt Lake Community College.
