Henry's Late Goal Lifts Badgers Over Eagles

The Snow College men's soccer team won its only game of the week, earning a thrilling come-from-behind win over Utah State University Eastern 2-1.

The Badgers are coming off a split weekend against the College of Southern Idaho and Truckee Meadows Community College. They suffered a 1-0 loss against CSI before picking up a convincing win over TMCC 6-0.

The game opened as a gritty defensive battle, with neither being able to seize full control of the ball. The first shot of the game came in the eighth minute off the foot of Ryan Henry, which sailed wide of the net.

Between the 12th and 17th minutes, USUE had the opportunity to take three corner kicks but was unable to convert on any of them. It also picked up a red card, leaving them a man down for the rest of the match.

The Badgers were able to put up three more shots in the half, with one of them almost squeaking one past the USUE keeper, but it was held at bay. Mathias Christensen got challenged once in the first half, but was able to keep the ball out of the net, bringing the score to 0-0 at half.

USUE got the second half off to an explosive start, scoring the first goal of the game within the first minute of the half to take a 1-0 lead. It would be the Eagles' last shot of the half.

Snow College would then hound USUE in its half, putting up seven shots and four corner kicks. They found the equalizer in the 84th minute when Francisco Madeira centered the ball for Jack Burman, leaving him one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He was able to net the ball in the bottom right of the net, knotting the game up at one goal apiece.

The Badgers continued to apply pressure and found the game clincher in the 89th minute. Isaac Stanley sent the ball in off a corner kick. The ball was then jostled around until Max Mayer got it to Henry, who slotted it past the keeper for the 2-1 lead with 75 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Badgers finished the game with 14 shots, four of which were on net. Christensen finished the game, recording one save and allowing one goal. USUE finished with three total shots.

Snow College will wrap up its last road games next week. They will take on Colorado Northwestern Community College Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Rangely, Colorado. The Badgers won the matchup earlier this year, 1-0 in Ephraim.

They will then travel to Taylorsville to take on Salt Lake Community College Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. Snow College won the first meeting 1-0, with the winning goal coming from Madeira in the 76th minute. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
