OPENING KICK: The No. 11 Snow College men's soccer team will wrap up its last road games of the year. The Badgers will head to Rangely, Colorado, to take on Colorado Northwestern Community College Thursday at 3:30 p.m. They will then head to Taylorsville to take on Salt Lake Community College Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
The Badgers are coming off a 2-1 victory over No. 20 Utah State University Eastern last Friday. The Badgers rallied back after being down 1-0 for a majority of the second half, scoring two goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation.Â
KNOW YOUR FOE: CNCC currently holds a 1-6-1 conference record. It picked up its lone win against Pacific Northwest Christian College (3-0) and drew against North Idaho College (1-1).
The Badgers are 22-0 all-time against the Spartans and have scored a total of 111 goals across all meetings. The Badgers won the last contest 1-0, the smallest win margin between the two teams.Â
SLCC is currently in third place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference with a 5-1-2 conference record. They are one point behind the Badgers, who occupy second with a 6-2 conference record. Â
Last week, the Bruins picked up victories over PNWCC (4-2) and CNCC (1-0). SLCC's sole conference loss came against the Badgers in Ephraim, which was the Badgers' first home win against SLCC in seven years.Â
RECORD WATCH: Mathias Christensen has tallied 36 saves on the year after recording one save against USUE. He still stands in third place on the all-time career saves leaderboard with 91 and is seven away from tying the all-time record of 98 set by Jason Myers in the 2018-2019 seasons.
LAST TIME OUT: The game opened as a gritty defensive battle, with neither being able to seize full control of the ball. The first shot of the game came in the eighth minute off the foot of
Ryan Henry, which sailed wide of the net.Â
Between the 12th and 17th minutes, USUE had the opportunity to take three corner kicks but was unable to convert on any of them. It also picked up a red card, leaving them a man down for the rest of the match.Â
The Badgers were able to put up three more shots in the half, with one of them almost squeaking one past the USUE keeper, but it was held at bay. Christensen got challenged once in the first half, but was able to keep the ball out of the net, bringing the score to 0-0 at half.Â
USUE got the second half off to an explosive start, scoring the first goal of the game within the first minute of the half to take a 1-0 lead. It would be the Eagles' last shot of the half. Â
Snow College would then hound USUE in its half, putting up seven shots and four corner kicks. They found the equalizer in the 84th minute when
Francisco Madeira centered the ball for
Jack Burman, leaving him one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He was able to net the ball in the bottom right of the net, knotting the game up at one goal apiece.Â
The Badgers continued to apply pressure and found the game clincher in the 89th minute.
Isaac Stanley sent the ball in off a corner kick. The ball was then jostled around until
Max Mayer got it to Henry, who slotted it past the keeper for the 2-1 lead with 75 seconds remaining in regulation.Â
The Badgers finished the game with 14 shots, four of which were on net. Christensen finished the game, recording one save and allowing one goal. USUE finished with three total shots.
