Volleyball Finishes National Tournament in Eighth Place

The Snow College volleyball team wrapped its season, finishing in eighth place in the NJCAA national Tournament. The Badgers defeated Barton County Community College in the first round of the tournament 3-0.

They would fall to Northeastern Junior College in the second round, 3-1. In the consultation bracket, the Badgers would face Odessa College, but lost 3-1 to meet Salt Lake Community College in the seventh-place game, where they lost 3-0.

The Badgers entered the National Tournament as the 12 seed after they defeated No. 10 Eastern Arizona College in the Rocky Mountain B District Championship 3-2.

Snow College opened the first set against BCCC with a 7-3 run. The Badgers would extend their lead to 19-11 and continue that momentum for the rest of the period to close it, 25-15.

The second set saw the Badgers race to an 8-3 lead, but the Cougars were able to tie the game over the middle section of the period at 18. The Badgers would regain control, winning seven of the last 11 points to close the set 25-22.

The third set followed a similar pattern to the first two, as the Badgers got out to an early 7-3 lead. BCCC was able to fight the period back to a 12-11 advantage, but the Badgers rattled off a 10-3 run to take a 21-15 lead. The Badgers would close the set and match with a 25-19 win.

After defeating BCCC, Snow College advanced to the second round, where it would face NJC for the third time this season.

The opening set against NJC was tightly contested as the Plainswomen held a slight 12-10 lead by the midway point. The Badgers would use the momentum of a timeout to storm on an 11-2 run to go up 21-14 and would cruise to close the period 25-17.

The second period saw both teams tied at 7-7, but NJC would rip off a 14-2 run to take a commanding 21-9 lead. They would go on to win the set 25-13.

The third period had both sides knotted up at nine, and they continued to trade points until 14 all. NJC would then go on to win 11 of the final 16 points to take the set 25-19.

In the final set, the Plainswomen would get out to an early lead of 10-4, and they would continue to pile on the points to a 25-13 win, knocking the Badgers down to the consolation bracket.

In the consultation bracket, the Badgers faced off against Odessa. Odessa opened the first set on a 9-3 run, but Snow College was able to fight the score back to 16-16. The Wranglers were able to win nine of the final 14 points to take the first period 25-21.

Set two had both teams jostling for an advantage as Odessa held a slight 10-9 lead. It would then spark a 10-4 run to take a 20-13 lead, and they would cruise to close the set 25-15.

The third period saw the Wranglers go up 12-6 early, but the Badgers battled back to tie the score at 15. The Badgers would go on a 10-7 run to win the set 25-22 and keep the match alive.

The fourth set followed a similar script to the first three sets as Odessa went up 16-5. The Badgers battled back, reducing the gap to five points with a score of 21-16. The Wranglers were able to take four of the final seven points to close the match with a 25-19 win.

After the loss to Odessa, the Badgers played in a game to determine who would place seventh at the tournament in a rematch of the Region 18 Championship against SLCC.

The first set opened as SLCC took a firm grasp to go up 16-9. They would continue the momentum to close out the first period 25-15.

In the second set, the Bruins got out to an early 12-6 lead. The Badgers would bring the score to 19-12 in favor of SLCC, who would go on to finish the set with a score of 25-15.

The third set saw the Badgers keep it close as SLCC held a slight 8-6 lead. The Bruins would score 11 unanswered points to go up 19-6. Snow College would try to claw back into the period on a 9-4 run, but SLCC silenced that run to take the last two points of the set to win 25-15 and the match 3-0.

The Badgers finished the NJCAA National Tournament in eighth place, their third-best finish. They ended the year with a record of 15-16, with Head Coach Michael Daniel winning the Rocky Mountain B District Coach of the Year. For additional information, visit snowbadgers.com.
