Badgers Cruise Past Skyhawks in Final Non-Conference Game

The Snow College women's basketball team wrapped up its non-conference schedule by defeating Navajo Technical University 101-40. The Badgers improve to a 12-3 record as they enter conference play after the start of the new year. 

The Badgers are coming off hosting the Snow College Holiday Invitational, where they took down Otero Junior College 93-74 and Harford Community College 91-48. 

The Badgers opened up the game on an 11-3 run within the first three minutes of play and would tack on an additional eight unanswered points to go up 19-3 by the midway marker of the quarter. They would use the second half of the first quarter to stretch the lead to 29-11. 

The second period saw the Badgers outscore NTU 29-9, which was capped off by a 24-point run through the final six minutes of the half for a 58-20 lead. 

In the second half, Snow College continued its run from the second quarter to score an additional 11 points before NTU broke the chain of points and had its own 13-6 run. The Badgers would tack on five points to end the third quarter up 80-33. 

The Badgers used the fourth quarter to expand upon their lead as they outscored the Skyhawks 21-7 to close out the game with a final score of 101-40.  

Twelve different Badgers scored in the contest, with Dalana Jakovljevic leading the way with 17 points, Megan Johnson recording 12, and Lala Baldwin had 10. Mckenna Gardner recorded the most rebounds in the match with seven. Hartlynn Richins similarly led the team, recording six steals.

As a team, the Badgers recorded a total of 25 steals throughout the game, which sets a program record for steals in a single game.

The Badgers will open Scenic West Athletic Conference play Jan. 3 at 1:00 p.m. inside the Horne Activity Center against Colorado Northwestern Community College. The Spartans head into conference play with a record of 1-12 and are 0-19 when they face the Badgers in Ephraim. For video streaming and live stats information, visit snowbadgers.com.
