The Snow College softball team split a four-game series against Utah State University Eastern over the weekend in Price. The Badgers won games one and three to win the season series against the Eagles 5-3.
 
The Badgers entered after dropping three of four games to No. 16 Salt Lake Community College March 21-22 in Ephraim. The four-game series with USUE marks the beginning of the second half of conference play.
 
Snow College started quickly in game one as back-to-back doubles from Hailey Mangum and Brooke Fisher to lead off the game gave the Badgers a 1-0 lead. Kamryn Allen pushed across another run two batters later on a fielder's choice.
 
USUE cut the lead in half with a single tally in the fourth inning. Ayden Fitch launched a two-run homer in the fifth inning before a walk and two singles preceded a hit from Brenley Boydston, which plated two to give the Badgers a 6-1 lead.
 
The Badgers added three more on a home run from Allen in the sixth. The Eagles got the three runs right back in the sixth inning before Snow College pushed across five more runs in the final frame.
 
Two of the five runs came off the bat of Boydston as she blasted a home run to extend the lead. Four batters later, Fitch hit her second homer of the game, this time a three-run shot, and Snow College led 14-4 entering the bottom of the seventh.
 
USUE scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the lead was too large and the Badgers earned the victory, 14-11.
 
The Badgers struck first in game two as a sacrifice fly from Allen pushed across the first run of the game. Taimane Laolagi-Aloy then hit a two-run homer to give them a 3-0 lead. The Eagles responded and turned the tables, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
 
Snow College regained the advantage in the third inning on a two-run homer from Allen. The home run was Allen's fifth of the season and 25^th of her career. She needs just two more big flies to tie the record for home runs in a career matching the mark set by Alyssa Arslanian set between 2016-17.
 
USUE plated a run in the fourth inning to tie the game at five. Fitch broke the tie with a solo homer, her third of the day, to lead off the seventh inning. USUE responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to claim the victory, 7-6.
 
Fitch carried on where she left off in the first inning of game three as she hit a towering home run over the centerfield wall to give the Badgers a 3-0 lead. Similarly to game two, the Eagles responded with four runs in the bottom of the first.
 
Fisher hit a two-out, two-run homer in the second inning to give Snow College the advantage right back. An RBI single from Gracie Brooks in the third and another home run from Fisher, this one a three-run blast, in the fifth gave the Badgers a 9-4 lead and ultimately the win.
 
After being sidelined by a comebacker that hit her two pitches into the game, Avery Thorkelson returned later in the first inning and pitched a gem. She allowed just one run on three hits over 6 2/3 innings while striking out three batters.
 
Snow College struggled to get the offense going in the final game of the series pushing across just two runs. Mangum drove in both runs for the Badgers as she reached on an error in the second inning and singled in the fourth. USUE earned the win, 12-2.
 
Boydston led the Badgers offensively as she slashed .500/.571/.750, had a homer, and drove in four RBIs. Fisher went 6-15 (.400/.471/.867) with two home runs, a double and six RBIs. Fitch hit four home runs in 12 at-bats, drove in nine runs, and drew three walks.
 
Snow College will now return to Ephraim and play its final home games of the regular season. The Badgers will take on North Idaho College in a four-game series beginning Friday at 1:00 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12:00 p.m. Sophomores on this year's team will be recognized following the conclusion of Saturday's games.
