Badgers Eliminated From Region 18 Tournament

The Snow College softball team was eliminated from the Region 18 Tournament after suffering losses to Salt Lake Community College and North Idaho College Tuesday and Wednesday in Twin Falls, Idaho. The Badgers finish the tournament in fourth place after finishing in third during the regular season.

Snow College entered the tournament as the three seed and was pitted against the two-seeded Bruins in the first round. The Badgers won just one of the eight games played against SLCC during the regular season.

The Badgers struck first in the opening frame on a throwing error to take a 1-0 lead. SLCC responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead.

Snow College loaded the bases in the third inning and a walk from Kamryn Allen pushed across a run. Nev Carrasquel drove home a run on a hit by pitch before Moki Maughan tied the game on a sacrifice fly.

The Bruins got the lead right back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Three home runs from the Bruins in the fourth inning broke the game open as they took a 10-4 lead. They would end the game via run rule with a walk-off three-run homer in the fifth to win 13-4.

Following the loss, the Badgers dropped to the consolation bracket and met NIC, who suffered a 9-0 loss to the College of Southern Idaho in the first round. The two teams exchanged homers in the first inning. A solo shot from the Cardinals was bested by a three-run blast from Allen to give the Badgers a 3-1 lead.

The Badgers were held silent offensively over the next five innings as the Cardinals scored five consecutive runs and entered the bottom of the seventh with a 6-3 lead. Brooke Fisher led off the inning with a homer, and Allen did the same two batters later. The comeback was thwarted, and the Badgers suffered a 6-5 defeat.

Both Fisher and Allen went 3-5 with two walks from the plate for the Badgers during the tournament. Allen hit two homers and drove in five runs offensively.

Allen set a pair of program records during the tournament. With her two homers against the Cardinals, she now holds the program record in career home runs with 28. She also holds the single-season home run record after she hit 20 during her freshman season. She breaks the record of 27, which was set by Alyssa Arslanian during the 2016-2017 seasons.

Allen also owns the program record for RBIs in a career as she finishes with 111, which surpasses the mark of 106, also set by Arslanian during her career.

Snow College finishes its season with an 18-31 overall record and a 13-19 mark within Scenic West Athletic Conference play. They'll prepare to play a full season next spring.
