Volleyball Looks to Rebound at LCCC Invitational

OPENING SERVE: The Snow College volleyball team will be heading to Cheyenne, Wyoming, this weekend for the Laramie County Community College Invitational. The Badgers are coming off the Battle at the Beach tournament in Fort Myers, Florida, where they went 0-4.

The Badgers will face four opponents over the course of the two-day event. They will open against Central Arizona College Friday at 9:00, then turn around and face Ranger College at 3:00. Day two will open against Northeastern Junior College at 8:00 and will close out the event by taking on the host LCCC at 2:00.

KNOW YOUR FOE: Snow College is 2-1 in meetings with CAC, the most recent of which taking place last year in Yuma, Arizona, where the Badgers won 3-1. The two times they met before then were in 2014 and 2015 in Twin Falls, ID.

Ranger is 4-1overall entering the invitational, having dropped their first match of the year before winning their next four in a row. This is the first meeting between the Badgers and the Rangers in program history.

The Badgers will open up day two of the invitational by taking on NJC, which has started its season at 2-2. Snow College and NJC have a history of playing 10 times over the last 14 years, including twice at the NJCAA National Tournament. The Badgers hold the lead in the series 8-2 in meetings with the Plainswomen. NJC took the last matchup in 2024, 3-0.

Snow College will wrap up the invitational by taking on the hosts, LCCC. The Golden Eagles have started their 2025 campaign 2-2, splitting their games at the New Mexico Military Institute Invitational last weekend. The Badgers have faced LCCC four times, taking all four meetings, including a matchup last year in Twin Falls, Idaho, where the Badgers won 3-0.

LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College volleyball team suffered four losses at the Battle of the Beach Tournament last weekend in Fort Myers, Florida. The Badgers faced two of the top 15 teams, including the reigning national champions, at the two-day event.

Snow College began the tournament against Eastern Florida State College and suffered a narrow 3-2 loss. The Badgers were defeated 25-21 and 25-22 in the first two sets, but found their stride beginning with set three.

The Badgers trailed 17-12 midway through set three, but eventually rallied to take a 25-24 lead. They won the set 25-27 and maintained the momentum throughout set four. After taking a 10-7 lead, Snow College never looked back and won 25-23 to force a fifth set. It wasn't to be, however, and the Badgers suffered a 15-11 loss in set five.

Snow College turned around to face No. 15 Daytona State College. Despite three close sets, all of which finished with a 25-23 score, the Badgers were swept by the Falcons.

The Badgers took on No. 1 Florida Southwestern State College to begin day two of the tournament. The Buccaneers, the defending national champions, showed they are deserving of the top-ranked team in the country, as Snow College lost in three sets.

The Badgers won the first set of their final matchup of the Tournament against Hillsborough College. Despite the 25-19 win, Snow College dropped each of the remaining sets to suffer the 3-1 loss.

Aleah McDaniel led the team offensively with 41 kills over the weekend, while Cami Christiansen recorded 30 kills. Ema Thompson led the team with 69 assists, and Sydney Short tallied 52 assists. Avery Fowler led the team in digs with 47 and service aces with 10.

UP NEXT: The Badgers will head up north to Twin Falls, Idaho, on Sept. 5 and 6 to participate in the Starr Corporation Invitational, where they will take on three opponents over the course of the two-day event. Snow College will open the tournament against Eastern Wyoming College at 1:00, before facing Central Wyoming College at 7:00.
