The No. 10 Snow College women's soccer team opened Scenic West Athletic Conference play Saturday with a 1-0 win against Utah State University Eastern. The match was held at the Snow College Soccer Complex in Ephraim.
Kelsie Peterson scored her first goal of the season in the 78th minute. The goal came off a deflection by USUE goalkeeper, following a shot from
Caliyah Wagner. Peterson reacted quickly, controlled the ball, and slotted it into the net to secure the victory for the Badgers.
The first half was fairly even between the two teams. USUE recorded three shots in the first half, while Snow College had 12. Overall, USUE finished with eight shots with four on target, while Snow totaled 21 shots with five on target.
Daisy Williams delivered some impressive saves, including a critical stop in the 29th minute that helped keep the score level at halftime. Aside from Williams' performance in goal,
Brianna Kalista also stood out defensively at the center back position. She consistently relieved pressure, won 1-on-1 battles, and cleared the ball from dangerous areas.
The Badgers gained momentum and increased their tempo in the second half, which led to more attacking opportunities and ultimately Peterson's game-winning goal. Snow College capitalized on USUE's mistakes and held strong defensively to secure the win.
