The Snow College volleyball team stayed hot at the Starr Corporation Invitational, taking two of the three matches over the two-day event. The Badgers beat Eastern Wyoming College 3-1, Central Wyoming College 3-0, and dropped their final game against No. 15 Northeastern Junior College 3-0.
The Badgers were coming off a successful outing at the Laramie County Community College Invitational, where they went 4-0, dropping only one set throughout the event to the host LCCC.
The Badgers opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over EWC. They took the first set 25-15 in convincing fashion before the Lancers came back and won a close second set 25-22. The Badgers were able to stabilize, taking the third set 25-15 and the fourth and final set 25-23.
The Badgers closed out day one by sweeping CWC. Snow College won all three sets in a hard-fought fashion against the Rustlers, taking the sets 25-19, 25-22, and 25-21.
Snow College only had one game on the second day, a rematch against NJC, a team it had played a week before at the LCCC Invitational. The Badgers swept the Plainswomen 3-0 in that meeting.
NJC and Snow College had a tightly contested first two sets, with the Plainswomen edging out the Badgers 25-22 and 25-23. For set three, the Badgers weren't able to find their footing, and the Plainswomen were able to complete the sweep, taking the final set 25-17.
The Badgers were led in kills by
Cami Christiansen at 35, followed by
Hallie Layton, who had 18.
Ema Thompson recorded 92 assists over the three games, and
Avery Fowler led the Badgers in digs with 28, followed closely by Thompson at 26.
The Badgers will move to 6-5 on the year as they head to their final non-conference outing at the Canyon View Intermountain Invite in Taylorsville, Friday and Saturday.
Snow College will open the invite against No. 9 Trinity Valley Community College at 9:00 a.m. and will rematch against EWC to close out day one at 3:00 p.m. The Badgers will open day two, taking on Missouri State University-West Plains at 9:00 a.m., and will close out the invite against the top-ranked team in the nation, Miami Dade College, at 2:00 p.m. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
