Badgers Split Idaho Trip, Suffer First Loss of Season

The Snow College men's basketball team split its games over the weekend in Idaho. The Badgers suffered an 84-76 defeat against No. 11 College of Southern Idaho before earning a 106-82 victory against North Idaho College.

The Badgers entered the first of two trips to the Gem State this season having won each of their first 18 games of the season. They most recently defeated No. 23 Utah State University Eastern 81-74.

The lead bounced back and forth throughout the majority of the first half before a 9-2 run from the Badgers gave them a seven-point advantage with under five minutes to play in the opening period.

A CSI 3-pointer in the waning seconds trimmed the Snow College lead to just three heading into the halftime break. Snow College shot just 42 percent in the opening 20 minutes and led 38-35 by the midway point.

The Golden Eagles came out of the break scorching hot. They went on a 16-4 run in just over four minutes to flip the game on its head. CSI shot 6-7 from the field and 4-5 from beyond the arc during that stretch to take a 51-45 lead.

CSI led by as many as eight points in the second half before Snow College slowly began to trim the lead. A 7-0 run, capped off by a deep 3-pointer from McCaden Adams, gave the Badgers a 70-69 lead with just under four minutes to play.

The Golden Eagles responded and used a 7-0 run of their own to put the game out of reach. The Badgers suffered the 84-76 loss after their second-worst shooting performance of the season. They shot just 41.1 percent from the field – nearly 10 points below their season average of 50.8 percent.

Adams paced the Badger offensively with 21 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Brock McClure added 12 points and five steals, while Sam Sivulich finished with 10 points in the loss.

The Badgers responded well after their first loss of the season to earn a 106-82 victory against North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene.  Snow College's offense struggled slightly in the opening minutes despite taking a 23-14 lead midway through the first half.

The Badgers were able to maintain the lead at the free-throw line. The offense eventually found its rhythm and caught fire in the final five minutes of the opening stanza. Snow College outscored the Cardinals 23-3 while shooting 82 percent from the field and 67 percent from deep. The Badgers took a 53-31 lead into halftime.

The hot shooting continued to open the second half. Snow College scored 22 of the first 29 points on 69 percent shooting in the opening seven minutes. In total, the Badgers went on a 45-10 run over a 12-minute stretch from the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half.

The deficit proved to be insurmountable, and the Badgers went on to win 106-82.  It is the sixth time this season Snow College has surpassed the century mark in a game.

Sivulich led all scorers with a career-high 25 points. He also dished five assists and grabbed four steals. Adams chipped in 16 points while Sean Felts recorded 13 points and nine rebounds. Brock McClure notched his 10th double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards. Kyle Lemke added 10 points off the bench to aid in the victory.

The Badgers now find themselves looking up in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings for the first time in nearly two years. They will look to rebound as they begin their second round of conference play against USUE Thursday in Price.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. inside the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center. For video streaming and live stats information, visit snowbadgers.com.
