Badgers Clash With Cardinals in SWJCFC Semifinal

GAME NOTES:

The Snow College football team takes on Trinity Valley Community College Saturday in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference semifinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CDT at Bruce Field in Athens, Texas.

The fourth-seeded Badgers enter with a 4-4 overall record and a 3-4 conference mark after defeating No. 6 Navarro College 27-14 in their regular-season finale. The victory secured the final conference tournament berth and gave Snow College a chance to avenge its September loss to the Cardinals.

TVCC finished the regular season 7-1 overall and unbeaten in seven conference games. The Cardinals have won seven straight, most recently rallying past Blinn College 31-20 after holding the Buccaneers scoreless in the second half.

The teams have split their four previous meetings, although the Badgers have dropped the past two. Snow College won 56-43 in Athens in 2018 and 36-14 in Ephraim in 2022 before falling 31-24 in 2023 and 39-30 earlier this season.

In the Sept. 19 meeting at Terry Foote Stadium, Snow College built an 11-0 first-quarter lead but trailed 19-11 at halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter before they combined for 39 fourth-quarter points, with TVCC holding off the Badgers to spoil their homecoming game.

Snow College established a productive running game in that matchup, rushing for 243 yards while holding TVCC to 96. Jadyn Buckner led the Badgers with 122 rushing yards.

TVCC passed for 339 yards and converted 10 of 16 third-down attempts in the first meeting. The Cardinals also scored on a 61-yard interception return and blocked a punt for a safety.

Buckner enters the postseason after rushing for 191 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries against Navarro. He has rushed for a total of 810 yards and six touchdowns on 146 carries and 5.5 yards per rush.

The Badgers recorded four sacks against Navarro after totaling three in their previous three games combined. Fale Atuaia had two sacks against the Bulldogs.

Snow College finished the regular season 1-3 on the road, with its lone victory coming at Cisco College. The Badgers are 23-9 all time in road games under Erekson.

Kade Haroldsen ran in the 2-point conversion to give the Badgers a 27-14 lead with 10:27 remaining.

UP NEXT: Should the Badgers defeat the Cardinals, the Badgers would move on to the SWJCFC Championship and would face either Navarro or Tyler Junior College. Whoever wins between the Bulldogs and the Apaches would host the championship game, which is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7 at a time to be determined.
