Badgers Fall to the Eagles in Final Regular Season Meeting

The Snow College women's basketball team kicked off its final homestand of the season against Utah State University Eastern. The Badgers fell to the Eagles 73-66.

The Badgers were coming off their penultimate road swing of the year. They fell to Salt Lake Community College 50-47, before they headed to Rangely, Colorado, where the Badgers took down Colorado Northwestern Community College 75-55.

The game opened with USUE getting off to a hot start, outscoring the Badgers 16-6 in the first five minutes. The Badgers would string together an 8-3 run over the remainder of the first quarter, orchestrated by a Dalana Jakovljevic layup and a Lala Baldwin 3-pointer.

The second period had the Badgers carry their momentum into the quarter. In the first two minutes, Jakovljevic put back layup off an offensive board before Sara Aoki got a tough layup and an ensuing and-one to fall, knotting the game at 19. Both sides continued to trade points until USUE went on a 13-point unanswered streak over the middle part of the quarter. The Eagles would carry the momentum to the half up 36-29.

The third quarter saw the Badgers trim the USUE lead to as few as one point at the 5:49 mark on a Hillary Akomatsri layup and a pair of free throws a possession later. The Eagles would respond with a 9-2 burst over the next 2:30 to extend their lead back to eight. They would carry that lead into the final stanza up 55-48.

The final period of play saw the Badgers close the gap with a 10-2 run in the middle of the quarter. It kicked off with a Baldwin 3-pointer at 5:43 and was capped by a pair of Aoki free throws followed by a 3-pointer to tie the game at 64 with 2:55 left to play. USUE would finish strong, scoring nine of the final 11 points to win 73-66.

Aoki led the Badgers in scoring with 15 points, closely followed by Jakovljevic with 14, and Baldwin with 12. Akomatsri raked in seven rebounds to lead all Badgers with an accompanying six points.
