The Snow College men's basketball team used an impressive second half to earn a 90-77 victory against Salt Lake Community College Thursday in Ephraim. The No. 1 Badgers improved to 26-1 overall and 11-1 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play and extended their home winning streak to 25 consecutive games.
After falling behind 5-2 in the opening minutes, the Badgers answered with a 10-2 run.
McCaden Adams converted a layup, followed by a steal and an assist to
Max Toombs, who added two free throws moments later.
Sean Felts tipped in an offensive rebound to give Snow a 12-7 advantage three and a half minutes into the action.
A triple from Adams and a 3-point play from
Aaron Bliss gave the Badgers an 11-point lead before the offense went cold over the final 8:46 of the opening stanza. During that stretch, the Badgers made just one field goal – a 3-pointer from
Sam Sivulich with 3:24 to play.
As the Badgers closed the half shooting just 1-12 from the field, the Bruins closed the half on a 21-8 run to take a 46-44 lead into halftime. It's just the third time all season the Badgers have trailed at intermission.
Salt Lake extended its lead to five to begin the second period. The Badgers would then go on a 17-5 run over the next six minutes to flip the game on its head.
Trailing by two, Toombs scored seven points during a 9-0 run for the Badgers, who took a seven-point advantage with just over nine minutes to play.
The Bruins trimmed the lead to as little as four points, but the Badgers slowly began to separate themselves over the final few minutes of the game. A 3-pointer from Adams and a layup from Bliss moments later saw the Badgers take a 10-point edge.
Adams sealed the victory as he finished a layup while drawing a foul. He converted the old-fashioned 3-point play with two minutes left to give Snow College an 83-75 lead. The Badgers sealed the victory at the free-throw line down the stretch to claim the 90-77 victory.
Snow College shot 52 percent in the second half and 44 percent overall while holding SLCC to just 31 percent shooting after halftime. The Badgers also converted 28 of 33 free-throw attempts, including 17-18 in the second half.
Adams led Snow College with 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Toombs added 16 points, including 10-11 shooting from the free-throw line. Bliss and Felts both recorded double-doubles, finishing with a combined 26 points and 22 rebounds. Sivulich finished with 12 points to aid in the victory.
With the win, the Badgers rejoin No. 4 College of Southern Idaho atop the SWAC standings at 11-1. Snow College will play its final home game of the regular season Saturday against Colorado Northwestern Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. inside the Horne Activity Center.
