Ian Sanches connected on a 41-yard field goal as time expired to lift Snow College to a 26-24 victory over Tyler Junior College Saturday inside Terry Foote Stadium.
 
The Badgers led for most of the game before the Apaches took their first lead with 2:43 remaining. Snow College responded with an 11-play, 58-yard drive to set up Sanches' game-winning kick.
 
The win was also a significant one as it marked Zac Erekson's 50^th victory as head coach of the team. He becomes just the fourth coach in Snow College's 100+-year history to reach 50 career victories with the school, joining Steve Coburn, Paul Tidwell, and Robert Stoddard.
 
Snow College received the opening kickoff and marched 65 yards in nearly five minutes. Dylan Story connected with Lael Rhodes and Rockwell Magleby to move the ball into Tyler territory before Jadyn Buckner converted a pair of short-yardage opportunities.
 
Story finished the drive by finding Grayden Dumas for an 8-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt failed, and the Badgers took a 6-0 lead.
 
Tyler crossed midfield on its opening possession, but Meeks Falatea intercepted a pass to end the threat. The Apaches advanced into Snow College territory again on their next drive before the Badgers stopped a fourth-and-1 rush at the 28-yard line.
 
Snow College used the momentum swing to extend the lead. The Badgers faced third and 18 from midfield to begin the second quarter when Story found Denver Fauntleroy for a 50-yard touchdown. Sanches converted the extra point, giving Snow College a 13-0 advantage.
 
The Apaches responded with a 77-yard touchdown drive, converting a fourth-and-7 attempt with a 36-yard scoring pass to cut the lead to 13-7.
 
Falatea recorded his second interception on Tyler's next possession and returned it 28 yards to the Apaches' 47-yard line. Snow College gave the ball back on the following play, but the defense forced another turnover when Caleb Darthard stripped a Tyler receiver, and Wesley Valgardson recovered the fumble.
 
Buckner converted a fourth-and-1 attempt with a 27-yard run to move the ball into Tyler territory. The drive stalled at the 35-yard line, but Sanches made a school-record 52-yard field goal to extend the lead to 16-7. This is the second field goal of at least 50 yards he has made this season after making a 50-yard kick against Kilgore College.
 
Tyler answered with a 75-yard touchdown drive, trimming the deficit to 16-14 with 1:03 remaining in the half. The advantage remained at two entering halftime.
 
The Badgers forced consecutive three-and-outs to begin the third quarter. Snow College took over at its own 30-yard line following the second stop and put together a six-play, 70-yard scoring drive.
 
Buckner converted fourth and 1 with an 8-yard run before Story connected with Dumas for 25 yards. Buckner scored on the next play, breaking a 28-yard touchdown run to give Snow College a 23-14 lead.
 
The Apaches intercepted Story on the ensuing Snow College possession, but Falatea returned the favor two plays later by recording his third interception of the game.
 
Tyler missed a 46-yard field-goal attempt late in the third quarter, and the Badgers carried their nine-point advantage into the final period.
 
The Snow College defense stopped the Apaches on fourth and 1 early in the fourth quarter, but Tyler recovered a fumble on the next play. The Badgers kept the Apaches out of the end zone, forcing them to settle for a 24-yard field goal that trimmed the lead to 23-17.
 
Joseph Brandt later pinned Tyler at its own 10-yard line with a 61-yard punt. The Apaches responded with a 90-yard touchdown drive and took a 24-23 lead with 2:43 remaining.
 
Snow College began its final possession at its own 18-yard line. Story was sacked for a 9-yard loss on the opening play, but a pass interference penalty on third and 19 kept the drive alive.
 
Story completed consecutive passes to Makai Peterson before an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty moved the ball into Tyler territory. Another pass interference penalty placed the ball at the Apaches' 33-yard line.
 
Buckner carried three times for 9 yards, setting up fourth and 1 from the 24. Following timeouts by both teams, Sanches converted the 41-yard field goal as time expired to give the Badgers the 26-24 victory.
 
Snow College finished with 333 yards of total offense. The Badgers rushed for 151 yards and converted 6-16 on 3^rd-down conversions and 2-3 on fourth downs.
 
Buckner led the offense with 155 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries. Story completed 16 of 37 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Dumas caught four passes for 40 yards and a touchdown, while Fauntleroy added the 50-yard scoring reception.
 
Falatea recorded three interceptions and six tackles. Caleb Darthard led the defense with 14 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Kolter Stuart added 13 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
 
Snow College improved to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in Southwest Junior College Football Conference play. The Badgers will travel to Brenham, Texas, to take on Blinn College Saturday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. MDT inside Cub Stadium. For video streaming and live stats information, visit snowbadgers.com.
