The No. 17 Snow College women's volleyball team traveled to Twin Falls, Idaho, Sept. 4-5 to compete in the Starr Corporation Invitational, going 2-1 at the tournament. The Badgers opened play with a 3-1 victory over Treasure Valley Community College before falling to Western Nebraska Community College, 3-0. Snow College closed tournament play Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of Central Wyoming College.
Snow College opened the tournament against TVCC, dropping the opening set 25-21 before responding with three consecutive set victories, 25-15, 25-12 and 25-18. The Badgers finished with 56 kills, four blocks and 77 digs. Hallie Layton led the team with 20 digs and Britani Stone added 17.
The Badgers then fell to WNCC, which entered the invitational on a four-match winning streak. The Cougars carried that momentum into the match, defeating the Badgers in three sets, 25-11, 25-19 and 25-20. Snow College finished with 24 kills, four blocks and 54 digs.
Snow College bounced back Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of CWC, winning 25-12, 25-14 and 27-25. After controlling the first two sets, the Badgers faced a closer battle in the third set but held on to complete the sweep. The Badgers finished with 40 kills, 11 blocks and 51 digs.
Across the tournament, Grant recorded 60 assists, while Aleah McDaniel led the Badgers with 29 kills and Weatherly added 26. Layton finished with 14 kills and 20 digs, while Stone recorded 44 digs and McDaniel added 39. The Badgers are now 7-4 on the season.
The Badgers continue tournament play at the Bruin Bash Sept. 11-12 in Taylorsville, Utah. Snow College opens the tournament Sept. 11 against Eastern Wyoming College at 11:30 a.m. before facing No. 8 Trinity Valley Community College at 5:30 p.m. The Badgers continue play Sept. 12 against No. 1 Miami Dade College at 9 a.m. and Odessa College at 2 p.m. For video streaming, visit snowbadgers.com.
