EPHRAIM – The Snow College football team finished its regular season Saturday with a hard-fought 48-38 victory over No. 6 New Mexico Military Institute at Badger Stadium.
Led by a balanced offensive attack that put up 525 yards in the game, the Badgers outscored the Broncos 27-14 in the second half to come away with the win.
“We knew it was going to be a hard-fought game,” said head coach Tyler Hughes. “We knew it would come down to who could make more plays down the stretch.”
New Mexico Military struck first with a touchdown less than five minutes into the game. The Badgers bounced right back when quarterback
Christian Stewart hit
Ronrei Lloyd for a 35-yard touchdown four minutes later.
“It was a bit of a track meet,” said Hughes.
The two teams combined for 999 total yards of offense, including nearly 600 rushing yards.
The difference in the game was turnovers, said Hughes. Although the Badgers had an interception and lost a fumble, the defense was able to create six Bronco turnovers, including an interception return by
Jake Miller for a touchdown.
“Turnovers change the momentum of the game so quickly,” said Hughes.
Quarterback
Christian Stewart started the game for the Badgers, going 9-18 for 140 yards and two touchdowns. When he went down just before halftime,
Adam Eastman stepped in and went 8-15 for 126 yards and a touchdown.
“Adam really stepped up big,” said Hughes of the sophomore. “He came in and made plays.”
Damond Powell led Badger receivers with five catches for 106 yards and a touchdown. Lloyd caught three balls for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
Breon Allen led Badger running backs with 12 caries for 105 yards and a touchdown, with
Kapri Bibbs right on his heals with six caries for 99 yards and a touchdown.
The Badgers finish their regular season 8-3 and third place in the Western States Football League.
The team's final game of the year will take place Dec. 3 at the Top of the Mountains Bowl at Rio Tinto Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon and tickets range from $5 to $15. Tickets can be purchased at riotintostadium.com.
