PHOENIX—Sophomores Christian Stewart and Damond Powell were a dynamic duo as the Snow College Badgers beat the host Phoenix College Bears 45 - 0 in Western States Football League (WSFL) play Saturday night. Stewart was 19-of-29 passing for 362 yards and three touchdowns with Powell hauling in six receptions for 226 yards including a 71-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
The Snow defense was again overpowering, recording 11 sacks as they held the Bears to 85 yards of total offense. The Badgers picked off two passes, one of those by Lee Crosby who handed off to Tre Hansen for a 43-yard score, giving the Badger defense seven touchdowns on the season to go along with their seven safeties. Kapena Clark had the other interception for the Badger, with both picks coming in the third quarter. The Badgers have given up only three points in their last two outings.
Phoenix could manage only eight first downs, three of those via Badger penalties, as Snow held the Bears to just 1-of-14 on third down attempts.
Snow finished with 513 yards of total offense with Breon Allen grinding out 110 yards rushing on 19 carries and two touchdowns. Allen now has 1,502 yards on the season with 18 touchdowns.
Powell broke the 1,000 yard barrier, finishing with 1,045 yards receiving for the season to go along with 13 touchdowns. Tight end Evan Moeai also pulled in six passes for 53 yards and two touchdowns.
Snow moves to 9-1 overall and sits alone atop the WSFL with a record of 7-0. They travel to Yuma, Ariz. this week to take on Arizona Western in a showdown to decide the WSFL crown. Arizona Western stands at 6-1 in conference play, and Glendale, also 6-1 in the WSFL, could figure in a three-way tie if Western can upset the Badgers. Phoenix drops to 3-6 overall with the loss and 2-5 in league play.
